I am 11 hours into the game and I am still interested so thats a good thing. The only thing to me that was kinda eye straining was the 3 hour intro. I mean dude I was beginning to think that I would never see Sora or Donald and Goofy again. But after all that I was content and went full speed ahead into the story. I am liking it a whole lot so far. I just hope it gets better as I get further. Oh yeah and I think I want to have a threesome with Olette and Kairi. Hellz yeah that would be the ish.

Sorry for putting new game names and such... I'm gonna have to say yeah, so far so good. Dude you better hurry up with Halo tho' cuz Kairi is waiting for you. LoL. I'm excited for you now and can't wait till you start in on the fun. Can't wait to hear your thoughts. paul1085 just do what I'm doing... I currently have 3 games that I am trying to defeat: God of War, Prince of Persia: The 2 Thrones, and Kingdom Hearts II. In God of War I'm in God Mode and at the Final battle against Ares and I am having a grand F#%@ing time with the Kratos Clones. Any advice...**wink-wink** LoL. I kinda think it's near impossible but I'm gonna keep trying till I've conquered it. As for the topic of discussion, Kingdom Hearts II, upon arrival March 29th I haven't touched any other game. So it's safe to say that it has taken complete control of the PS2 console. LoL. But the other 2 games are just as interesting in their own right so I'll continue to play side by side when I have time, but Kingdom Hearts II is now the main focus.

Hellz yeah...just wait cuz it gets a whole lot better. Thanx for letting me know about the Warrior within. I was debating wether or not to get it but I am gonna take your word for it and give it a shot. Yeah dude let me know how the progress is going on Kingdom Hearts II and let me know what your thoughts are. I just got done opening the key ports to the P.O.C and Atlantica. I'm about 13 or 14 hours into the game now. Keep me posted on what you think.

I was thinking the same thing at that point but it will all come together, trust me. Yeah I only played for like an hour or 2 today. I had family come and visit. Well keep me posted on your progress I would like to know what you think. Hopefully you go balls out and play for 10 hours str8 to catch up with me so I won't have to keep biting my tongue. LoL. I would like to tell you more on my progress but I don't want to ruin it for you. Hey paul1085 have you played the Kingdom Hearts GBA version? I haven't but Kingdom Hearts II is suppose to have some storyline from the GBA version. I'm kinda pissed cuz now I feel like I have to play that one to get a better understanding on everything...That suxxxz. Well keep posting as I am looking forward to hear of your progress. Laters.

Got the English version finally. I had the Japanese for a little while and didn't get too far. (I got Sora to hollow bastion, but could never fly to Mulan's world...) However, in the English copy, I'm about twice as long into the game as you and have almost beaten it. I'm at the last "big bad guy" (I won't say the name seeing that alone would "spoil" it for you) Something I have to say is, if you were annoyed with the long intro, just wait. That's a cake walk compared to the upcoming 6-7 hour rampage of flying to random Disney worlds and solving everyone's problems of depression. (if there was a limit ability of Zoloft or something it'd make the game a whole lot easier...) Also, you do know Olette and Kairi are cg... right???

As for game play, I was level 42 the first time I reached the last battle. Due to this I got royally raped and had to level up some more. I'm now like 58 and am working on synthesizing the Ultima weapon to help me beat the bad guy up and see that ending video. (I'm close to synthesizing it by the way, and I'm hoping it looks different than the first one. I liked it, but I'm looking for something "cooler") In KH1, you could never have gotten to "Ansem" at level 42, it just couldn't happen if you had actually "beaten" the game. However in KH2, I find the game play more interesting, however easier. (less need to level up and such) Also, halfway through the game, after you get some of the key abilities, you don't find too much more to look forward to in battles. It's mainly just "x," "x," "x," repeat process. (However may be modified with the use of a few abilities or random impulses to do a limit/drive function) You get some summons/limits/added drive functions to spruce it up, but it hardly keeps your attention when fighting 10,000 heartless in what seems like a never ending battle. Also, when you're on your own w/o teammates, you can't exactly do any of those.

Graphics were said to be upgraded, and honestly I can tell the difference. It's not in the game play really, (apart for a little something that I'll get into later) it's in all those videos. Everything looks more natural and has that spring factor that gives the look of human tissue/hair. It looks more lively. Also, in the first Kingdom Hearts, everything was like bright red, green, yellow, or whatever. In this, it seems to have more diversity which gives everything, especially the towns, a more realistic approach and more color diversity. Speaking of the videos, I find the dialogue more flavorful; better writers I guess. There's less of that "deer in the headlights" look when you watch the videos, or thoughts of, "wow that was gay." And I actually found myself laughing a few times; something I never did with the first. A breath of fresh air actually and completely unexpected. However, this doesn't last long. About half way through they seem to get lazy and begin to make lame jokes and say anything to fill up some time. A little disappointing.

Now after saying all that, I thoroughly enjoyed the game. The battle system isn't really as bad as it might have come off from my words of above. It, in it's essentials, is so much less "clunky" and gives Sora and friends that highly desired "gracefulness" that he very much lacked in the first. You get some spiffy abilities that make it fun such as a sonic blade equivalent that lunges you toward an enemy, and there's a load of new ones like Explosion that releases these swiveling balls of energy that orbit you and hurt nearby enemies immensely. Also, the previously worthless triangle button now seems to do everything. Be it talking to people, opening up a chest, (within battle now!!!! thank you square enix!!!) sliding behind a nobody, or throwing your keyblade into an enemy's ball of gravitational pull, the triangle button is there to save you. There are some neat-o reaction commands too that pull you away from the average hack and slash mosh pit of "x" smashing Kingdom hearts fun such as jumping up through a vortex of air to land on a dragon's back, or having a good samurai duel with a swordsman Nobody.
The story line is compelling, however. Besides the huge drought of information there is in the middle of the game, it carries on nicely with the previously established storyline of the first and sequel Chain of Memories. There's enough room for your own speculation so there is a little guess/hint work done. By the end, it all makes sense and there should be many, "oh's" "okay I get it now's." However, if you're a hardcore Final Fantasy fan, I recommend straying away from the game. They completely redid all the characters and voices (some for the worse, some for the better. I, for example, simply loath Aerith's new voice... Mandy Moore was far better for the job if you ask me) and seem to just throw them in there. (However, cloud looks exactly how he should and they didn't rape him of his pride so much like they did in the first. Sephiroth sounds like a fag by the way... And for those who aren't familial with the Kingdom Hearts series, they did in fact steal Squall's gunglade idea and turn it into a "keyblade.") Then again, they have the right to steal anything they want from the games; they made them.

BEGIN SPOILER. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW, DON'T READ TILL END OF SPOILER MESSAGE:
I'm not a big final fantasy fan. I played FFX and liked it but I'd had enough of the turn based battle system by the end of it. With that in mind, I know of Yuna and her little posse, as well as Paine, a chick from FFX2. Anyway, in the game, they turn the three girls into these little fairies for no reason. You see Yuna, the head of the gang, working with Maleficent (the familiar Disney villain of Sleeping Beauty) only to gag her evil "treasure." That in and of itself I found rather repulsive seeing as they had so much more of a role in the game I liked. They then leave Maleficent for your team because Donald Duck lies to her and tells her you have more treasure. They then disappear only later to give you a new keyblade called "Gullwing" and that's all you see of them. How pointless! The keyblade isn't even that good to begin with. They could have easily left that out completely if it wasn't for the number they're trying to reach of Disney/FF cameo's to put on the back of the game box...
END OF SPOILER. YOU CAN NOW READ ON.

Final Verdict:

I can't truly rate it because I haven't actually beat it yet, however I can say it's a worthy sequel to the game I simply adored. The first had a magic about it that kept me playing for hours and hours on end. I had accumulated about 80 hours on one game save. I had taken the liberty of maxing out Sora's stats and I had beaten every mini game there was. I just can't seem myself doing that again with the second. It was good while it lasted, and this is coming from a hard hard core KH fan, but they could have done better. Like so many games, if a little more time was only spent...

KH: 9.5/10
KHII: 9.0/10

(KHII's rating could go up after seeing the final video and knowing whether or not there COULD be a third...)

I've edited the KHII score now that I finished the game. It did indeed go up.

Just beat it. End video was totally worth it. Won't spoil it, but am wondering if anyone else has seen it already. Up for discussion? I definitely have questions and want to know if anyone else thinks what I think. I'll have to go back and beat it again so I can watch it more thoroughly. (possibly even record it. does anyone know how to host videos? I could convert it down to prolly a few megs in AVI format if anyone does...)

Kingsora did you not read the second post PLEASE NO SPOILERS.

Oh well thats one thread ruined and I was just in a postition to start talking about my so called progress.

Neiljames do you mind changing the thread title to
Kingdom Hearts 2 Massive Spoiler alert

I think its in the bottom or top right hand corner where you can edit what you named you thread.

I know its not your fault as you had the ability to bite your tongue its just that I don't want to be involved in spoiling this great game for anyone else.

Cheers.

Oh sorry man. I did read your post which was why I put the big bold letters up saying "Don't Read." I didn't know... sorry if I ruined anything for you... did you read it or something?

However, "massive spoiler alert"??? It wasn't really that big, I was merely trying to back up my previous comment of them throwing FF characters into the game... But again, sorry.

Also, I did record the end video. I encoded it into a 1500kbps/40meg AVI. Does anyone know how to host it? I'd like to share it and possibly create a thread open for discussion. Thanks in advance.

Yeah man I was starting to read KingSora's post and I had to shut my eyes and just forget the little that I did read. I'll try and edit the title...Well I haven't touched the game for like two days. I opened two more keyports and then I saved and quit. Tonight The Heartless are mine tho'. They better gather all their army cuz I'm coming full force, with the help of Two Disney Characters. LoL.

So for those of you that have played it and woudl give advice to someone like me who played the first one and finally stopped after I couldn't beat Sephiroth after getting to 100, getting the ultima weapon, and having every ability on, would you say that it would be worth it to me to spend the 55 bucks to get this game or not? I haven't read PSM's review on this game (that will be in the next issue, big fan of them they have never let me down) so I don't know what to do at the moment.

Dude I was thinking the same thing. I am in expert mode and it's all just too damn easy. Maybe further into the game it will be extremely hard...I sure do hope so. It almost seems like this time around the battle difficulty was made more for the youngens. LoL. Time to play...I'll keep you updated. Peace.

Jhult I'd recommend renting the game to get a good feel. If you don't like it, you saved yourself about 45 bucks. Seeing as I beat the game on proud mode and died maybe 3 times (I beat Sephiroth in the KH1 at level 55 with Oblivion and 75 with the Kingdom Key) I'd say it's easy enough for you to beat at Normal and definitely easy. Seeing as I thoroughly enjoyed the game (you can read my mini review sans spoiler part for further reference... and by all means, stray far far away from the spoiler seeing as the other two nearly pouted their eyes out after reading a few words...) I think if KH1 was fun for you, then KH2 will definitely be of interest.

Ahh come on now queensora no need to get all defensive. LoL. :) It's like when you go to a new movie with someone who's already seen it. You don't want that person constantly telling you, " Oh, Oh, watch this part this is where." and then he reveals the part before you even get to see it. Dude that's just rude and annoying as hell. But hey man I don't blame you because it was my fault for not posting some basic rules. So yeah... But when I do beat the game I will go back and read your reply and share my thoughts with you. Hey no hard feelings. By the way I have just started on the Keyport PR. This keyport has been abbreviated for those of you who have not reached this point in the game. So good luck on everybody's progress. Peace.

By the way I agree with kingsora, you should rent the game to get a feel for it. The only messed up thing is that you probably won't get too good a sense for the game untill you've advanced at least 4 hours into it. So be ready to play it for a while once you rent. And I'm more than sure you have a memory card so it should be no problem.

I was playing too man. And it was more of a joking "attack" than "defensive" maneuver, I thought. Anyway, about the annoying/rude aspect, I completely understand what you're saying, that's why I apologized. Only reason I didn't take it out was because I had put the bold letters up.

"But hey man I don't blame you because it was my fault for not posting some basic rules."
That would have helped actually. I mean in the title it said, "How do you like it so far," and not "How do you like it so far, but don't say anything about a point in the game further than I am at..." I took it literally I guess.

When you're done, watch the ending video. I want to know what you guys think.

In a second I'll post a link up to the video. For those who don't know, if you beat KHII in standard mode and complete all the worlds as well as Jimminy's journal, you'll get a secret video. (in Proud mode all you have to do is complete all the world's) This secret video is the equivalent of Deep Dive/Another Side Another Story. If you haven't seen this video and don't want to ruin any aspect of KHII, then I reccomend you DO NOT WATCH THE VIDEO.

Once again:

DO NOT WATCH THIS VIDEO UNDER ANY SURCUMSTANCE IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THIS YET AND DO NOT WANT TO "SPOIL" ANY PART OF KHII GAMEPLAY!
