problems booting with gameshark

ok i have a gameshark2 v2 thats what it says on the cd and i dont know what exact version it is(can anyone tell me how to find out) ive read many threads on how to boot and i followed instructions but still my cd doesnt boot the ps2 seems to hang when i press X after i swapped the gameshark disc with my backup, the backup is not a game is a exploit installer cd which im trying to install the exploit on my memory card but ive had no luck on booting the disc, the disc is correctly recorded following the instructions on exploitstation so it should work if i swapped it with the gameshark disc, anyways if anyone has been on this specific situation and can tell me if im doing anything wrong or list the steps that i have to follow take make it work correctly id be on my way to playing backups lol
