I got a HP 400c, for some reason now it will read audio cd's and not burn or read dvd's. I installed Nero 7 about a month or two ago. Tried everything I could think of.

Also I did a little research on here, and came across and DMA thread and he was explaining DMA, anyway on his visuals he showed only one set of controllers.

And typed yours should look similar to mine.

Well mine has two Primary's, two secondary's, also a standard dual channel pci ide controller, and a via bus master ide controller.

I was just wondering if that is a problem. I have a CD player also on the computer.

DMA settings wouldnt effect the DVD burrner from recognizing DVD's. It has to do with how the computer deals with reading the information from the drive. DMA (Direct Memory Acsses) means your memorey accsses the drive, where PIO mode means the CPU does all the work.

DMA being off would effect the speed of reading/burning DVD's. It wouldnt effect it from recognizing DVD media.

Find your model number for your DVDBurrner and search and see if there is a firmware update for it and update it.

2 of my pcs have 2 primary and 2 secondary controllers. They both have dual hard drives and dual DVD-RW drives.

As long as your controllers say: UDMA/DMA/or if available, then you should be ok.Make sure they don't say pio mode. This will really slow down your process.Sometimes those dmas can flash back and forth from pio mode and you don't even realize it.

Will not read or write dvds?

What's the brand name/format/and speed rate?

Use Nero infotool to find the MID code on them if it can.

Did you change anything about your media like: Different spindle/format/quantity of pack.Mid codes can change on the majority of brands of media. This means you may have 4 different manufacturers making the exact same brand of media like Memorex +8x,etc. Your burner's firmware may not be programmed to use that media.

If it don't recognize blank media ,make sure you haven't switched MID codes on them. If you are in the same spindle and no longer gets recognized, then:

Go to device manager
Click that + sign under DVD-CD-rom drives
Double click your HP 400c drive
Click driver tab-on the bottom
Uninstall
Reboot

If you have windows xp,then it'll automatically hook the drivers back up for that drive, just like your primary/secondary controllers.

See if your burner will recognize your media.
