my burner was fine untill about a week ago, i didnt make any changes so i dont know what the problem could be. my burner is a LG super multi dvd/cd burner. every time i put a blank disk in to burn something it wont read that its in the drive and keeps saying device not ready unknown reason and acts as if the drive is empty.

have you recently moved your tower , maybe the ide cable has come loose, but first maybe you should try going into system and check if drive is recognised in there.

As morph3ous suggested, check you connections inside your computer. Also, try another IDE cable if you can get ahold of one. Sometimes cables can go kaput. Try different media just to be sure it's not that. Depending on how old your drive is, it may be time to replace it though.

yes he is right, never crossed my mind , thanks for that :)
if after that you still find a fault, then maybe you have a faulty unit.
