The 360 HDD is a SATA drive. At present there is NO way of swapping out the drive for a replacement. However, I would suggest keep browsing the forums as it won't belong before some one cracks it.
Well I wasn't sure. I figured because it was made to use a HDD, that it wouldn't be a big deal to swap it. Do you know this from personal experience or one of your friends try it already ?? I'm talkin about actually tryin to replace it ?? Swapping it and seeing if it works !! Chances are it's probably not going to work , but I'm just curious if anyone actually tried it. The best thing to do is copy the 360 HDD to a new HDD and I don't see why it wouldn't work. I was talking about actually put one into the core. Thanks for the reply . Hit me back up man.
the main problem is formatting the HDD, and things of that nature, otherwise you 'could' hook in a sata hdd but it wouldn't be recognized. and as of now, i don't think there's a way to copy it entirely to a new HDD (or we'd all have huge sata HDD's by now installed) so as far as i know it's in a stage of being stuck.
I have already tried to swap the drives out. Nothing happens. The 360 just wont see it. I have also taken the drive from the 360 and stuffed it into my PC and as was the old xbox the drive is locked. I have managed to un-lock this (software found from net browsing) but even in its unlocked state your PC won't recognise the file format. I have a couple of friends who work for the company who carry out the xbox service contract here in the UK (can't name company) and they have told me that the drive is locked up real tight.
I don't believe that a drive swap is going to be possible until someone comes up with some clever linux patching / solution to flash out on the 360 itself.
Keep watching this space. There are some real clever bods on this site and I am sure that soon someone will crack.
Since we are on the HDD subject. I'm sure MS is going to release larger version of HDDs but how much they are going to charge. 20 gigs for 100 buks already. Also i'm wondering how they are going to take care of the stuff we download off marketplace that we pay for. maybe upload our content/settings (mp3 files ripped to the hdd) to their servers etc. or provide usb cables to copy data over =) something to think about
I am guessing it would be the same as the old xbox. With that I mean if you deleted your halo map packs you could then go and download them again but the xbox server would know via your gamertag that you had already paid for them.
This also applied to when I bought my 360 and I had to re-download all the files (map packs etc) for lots of games to the new 360. The xbox server already knew that the packs were paid for by me and so I didn't have to pay again.
I am pretty sure that your purchases / downloads are linked and tracked vis your gamertag.
