I decided to 'sticky' this thread because I'm rather bored to view every day hundreds of questions about the 'AVI to DVD' issue. In http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/ there is all you need.

First of all, you'll need the proper codec installed on your system , or your PC won't be able to read those AVIs type (Xvid of DivX - to be sure install both on your PC, codecs are free for DECoding only purposes and having both is never a mess).
If you find that a certain codec pack is unreliable, uninstall it and install the original codecs, instead. Xvid is free and the DivX codec is usable freely, to decode AVIs only, I repeat.

1st, join CD1.avi+CD2.avi = movie.avi with VirtualDub (read http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/virtualdub_join_avi.cfm).
Also, be careful to have read the FAQ (http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/196299) first, expecially http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/309635 (VirtualDub error: different sampling rates) and http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/129217 for the sound which may become out-of-sync (AVI with MP3 VBR inside it).
After that, read any guide in http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/ to learn how to make AVI -> DVD-R; you have many guides:
· Advanced TMPGEnc DVD Author Guide
· Basic TMPGEnc DVD Author Guide
· Burning pre-authored DVD-Video using Nero
· DVD-lab : A look at inexpensive DVD authoring software
· Editing a DVD with DvdReMake - Part I
· How to burn a DVD folder with DVD Decrypter
· How to burn a DVD Folder with ImgBurn
· How to burn a DVD-img or DVD folder to DVD with DVDSanta
· TSUNAMI MPEG DVD Author Pro Guide
· VSO PhotoDVD Guide

Remember that maing a DVD is a process which consists of three steps:
1) AVI -> Video [720x480/576 M2V (NTSC/PAL)] + Audio (WAV,DTS,MP2,AC3)
2) authoring (M2V+audio[+subtitles]) --> IFO+BUP+VOB set
3) burining the stuff in the Video_ts folder on your DVD-R

Only later, post in the forum if you encounter any problem.

Why not just using FilmMachine? You can add several video files there and then convert them to dvd-format. After that, just burn it using Nero.

well,dont all converters do this,i mean if the quality isnt great to start with,you cant improve on it
the film machine/CCE engine (which i havent use for ages),did have a sound boost option,but thats all
i have yet to come across a converter that actually improved the quality of the original source,maybe you can shed some light on the topic :)

its been a while since i used it,as mentioned above,and it was one of the best apps i used,other than being a little confusing at times
but it wasnt a one click app like you suggest,(maybe it has changed?)
you need to use something like TMPGEnc DVD author afterwards to join the mpegs together

for my money,you only need 3 items to convert downloaded avi's/svcd/vcd's

1)vso's convertxtodvd,(got to be the easiest app to use to join 2 avi's???)
make a few settings,drag and drop the avi's in,and click go
hey presto,in a hour or so,you have a dvd with your film on it

2)isobuster to extract the mpeg's (vcd/svcd only)

3)a good codec pack,like k-lite mega pack

Hi, I'm getting the problem of the audio being out of sync, I tried using Virtual dub but it comes up saying that "Virtual Dub cannot recognise this format". I usually use VSO DivX to DVD, but I get the problem as i've described.

Please can someone help, this is really doing my head in. Any help would be much appreciated.
