hi guy, all of a sudden my dvd/cd rom is not recognising some of my discs, there is no set pattern to it, it can be cd or dvd, its just with certain discs, i have checked the discs on other players and they work fine, i haveupdated and rolled back the drivers, i have uninstalled the rom a few times, but nothing, when i put the discs in i can hear a faint beep every couple of seconds or so, when the window eventually opens it shows discs as blank, anybody got any ideas, i have followed the troubleshooter but like always its a waste of time

Try a lens cleaning disc. Allow it to clean then try one of the problem discs.

You didn't mention of these are backup discs that you did or purchased ones. If backups what is the media brand? Also, what is the brand of the drive?

hi mate, thanks for the feedback, its a sony dvd/cd rom and it is a backup disc, its memorex

Memorex are the worst media you can use for a DVD backup.

Follow my suggestion with the lens cleaner, then backup those discs to some quality media.
