is this patch intended only for use with swap magic or do i need to us the patch anyway has i have got a soldered chip in my ps2 i dont need to use swap magic

Some modchips dont require this patch then again some do, im not sure if patching it will interfere with you mod chip but id recomend patching it just to be safe. I think Matrix infinity chip is fine without the patch considering its upto date im sure

PS.. post your chip here maybe some1 will tell ya from past experience if they have the same chip. the game is top shit so its worth wasting a disk
