Hey,

First post! How would you exactly go about testing different medias (-R, +R, etc.) without messing up your laser? I have had Swap Magic for a while now, and I have two PS2s. One reads +R's fine, and the other, I run -R's on it and so far haven't seemed to have trouble.

I have read that even a one-time thing of testing a type of media can strain your laser and could cause reading problems.

I'm kind of wanting to stay with just one PS2 for backups, and it would probably be the one with -R. Should I just...take my chance and simply put in the +R?

I know, I know...paranoid question. But, I'm just wondering. I'm sure nothing bad would happen.

using bad quality media is what will mess it up, not the +R or -R format itself.
You will be safe trying out thr +R, any PS2 that is V4 or above is SUPPOSE to be able to read both types. And it will for movie back ups.
But game back ups they always seem to read better on one or the other. I have used the -R for all mine on both my V7 and V12
and they have worked great.

So it is the quality of media you use that will make the biggest difference as far as laser life.
