The game will boot up but when I select the new game option, it just goes back to the main start screen. Is there anything I need to do? Like maybe using ISOBuster, patches? Any suggestions?

That game moves around in its memory a lot. It needs to be burned to high quality media.

I would recommend, if you have a ps2 that reads it, burn to high qaulity DVD+R. I would go with TDK or Verbatim.
