I just recently bought a dell510 and it came with a philips dvd+rw model 8701 internal burner. My burner is under warranty and im on my 2nd burner. The problem is after about 25 complete movie burn processes, the write speed drops from 15min to 35min, and the burn speed drops from 10min to 15min. I usually burn 6 movies one after another at a time. (can that be the problem?) The first burner did this and now the second burner is doing the same thing.

You should be able to burn many more movies in a row than that without affecting the performance of the burner. Make sure that your drive hasn't slipped into PIO mode, via device manager. Your drive should be in DMA.

I not sure how to check that. Can you or someone else explain how to check that setting in a little more detail.

I'm using DVD Shrink, Nero, Dvd FabDecrypter, and the burn & write speed is fine when i use my external sony dvd burner to burn movies.

here is a great guide to check out your DMA! http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/blog_entry.cfm/231/dmaissues
follow this and see if your drive switched to PIO mode! then correct it! I have a Dell also and a philips drive and never had a problem since day one! good luck!
