Hi! Im building a pc out of spare parts and i want to know wich would run windows and games faster. I cant decide because the Duron i have is 200mhz more than the Athlon. But isnt a Duron a cheaper version of the Athlon. So can someone help me out please and thanx.
Hi halo478,
The Duron runs 100MHz FSB x 12 multiplier, giving 1200MHz.
The Athlon could be a Thunderbird 'B' model, running 100FSB x 10, or it could be a Thunderbird 'C' running 133FSB x 8.
The Tbirds have 256KB full-speed L2 cache - but the Duron has only 64KB (good gawd, that's less than the cheapest Celeron...)
In any event, I would go with the Athlon Thunderbird, and run CPU-Z

It is probably Tbird 'B' on 100FSB; these were much more common.
In a perfect world, your mobo would support 133MHz FSB and your Tbird would run @ 133FSB giving 1333MHz - but don't count on it!
The Durons run @ 1.6 volt, and the Thunderbirds 1.85v.
No AMD CPU ever runs more than 1.85v, so if you overclock it and wick up a bit more CPU voltage, it will get hotter.
But it might run 1.33GHz and surprise you, with good cooling and a solid ~1.95v or so from your PS...
