Download Hijackthis!
What is Hijackthis?
HijackThis examines certain key areas of the Registry and Hard Drive and lists their contents.
Hjt download -> http://koti.mbnet.fi/pattaya1/lataus/hijackthis_self.exe
-> download -> Unzip to C:\HJT-> Press Ok and Close window
Make sure that you actually extract HijackThis to its own folder: C:\HJT.
DO NOT run it from within a zip manager (Winzip), or Desktop as no backups will be saved.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Once you have the HJT on yout computer
Scan your computer
Now Open Hijackthis -> Click "Do a system scan and save log file"
Hjt will scan your computer for about 15 sec. -> Log file will pop up.
Most items are perfectly fine. You should not remove them.
Never remove everything by yourself.
This forum will now help you work with the Experts to clean up your system.
-> Copy and paste the contents of the HijackThis log into your post.
Post full log, begins with: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1... etc
---------------------------------------------------------------------Step 5:
Wait for help.
Remember:
Never remove, checkmark and fix by yourself.
Unless you are POSITIVE you know what your removing.
post a log here and one of us will examine it.
Cheers
Possunt Quia Posse Videntur.

Hi missmac
Download LSPFix
http://cexx.org/LSPFix.exe
Save it on desktop.
Open LSPFix
Checkmark "I know what I?m doing".
Click newdotnet7_22.dll on the left(there could be multiple instances, move them all) , move it to right with >>-button , click "Remove", press Finish and close LSPFix.
Java update:
Click Start -> Control Panel and doubleclick Java-icon (coffee cup).
Go to "Update" - tab . Update your Java by clicking "Update Now" and then reboot.
If you are unable to perform an automatic update, please download Java from this address:
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
After reboot, go back to Control Panel and Java.
In Temporary Internet Files, click Delete Files-button.
Make sure that all these three options are checkmarked:
Downloaded Applets
Downloaded Applications
Other Files
Click OK in "Delete Temporary Internet Files" window.
After that, you can uninstall older version of Java via Add/remove programs in Control Panel
It should look like this:
Quote: Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03
Also if you want to get rid of MyWebSearch, do this:
Uninstall via add/remove programs (control panel):
MyWebSearch
Open HjT, click do a system scan only, checkmark these and press fix checked:

Hey Kemisti,
Thanks for the instructions, have done everything. (Had to download java as wouldn't update automatically)
Some of the files you told me to check weren't there - does it matter?
However - I can now get on to internet explorer again - yippee!!
Am I cured? How can i stop it from happening again? Any words of wisdom?
Cheers,
Missmac

Nice to hear :) Yes, New.net had screwed up your computer's winsock and that's why you were unable to connect internet. It's a malware program and winsock hijacker. Lspfix fixes winsock. Please send a fresh HijackThis log here so I can make sure that you're clean :)
