Hiya,

This is bizare and its starting to wind me up!

I have recently got 2x DivX AVI's and joined them together using VirtualDub, to produce one AVI which shows the following info in AVICodec.

FILE
1.36 GB (1.36 GB)
duration: 1:46:54
type: AVI
1 audio stream(s)
quality: 77 %

VIDEO
Video : 1.03 GB
1383 Kbps
25.0 fps
640*272 (2.21:1)
XVID = XVID Mpeg-4

AUDIO
Audio : 342 MB
448 Kbps
48000 Hz
5 channels
0x2000 = AC3 DVM

This is the joined DivX encoded AVI. Now when I converted the AVI to MPEG using Tmpgenc+, I ended up with an MPEG file that is 2h 08m 16s in length! This is 22m 22s longer!? Now the problem I have is that the audio that was produced by Tmpegenc+ wasn't compatible, it wouldnt open in any audio util / authoring package. Im presuming this is because it was AC3 audio and not WAV. So i stripped the WAV from the original joined AVI, and now I have a WAV that is in RAW format (1.4GB) and 1:46:54 in length that I need to stretch to 2:08:16 in length in order to burn it. How do I do this? Ive tried Goldwave (quality is far to riddled with artifacts), and Wavelab (Crashes before it even time stretches it!).

Any help would be very nice!!!

Cheers!

Try do do this. Load the AVI with VirtualDub set audio___Full processing mode and do file___Save WAV.
Now set audio__no audio and save (F7) into movie__mute.AVI.
The WAV can be encoded into AC3 or MP2 48000 kHz with FFMPEG GUI, the 'mute AVI' will be converted correctly into a M2V without being longer due to audio problems.
Finally, author the DVD set loading the new M2V file, the MP2/AC3 audio you made with FFMPEG GUI.
The bitrate for the video will have to be chosen according its length and the audio type for the DVD (DVTool is excellent, to do this).
All OK?

Hiya,

Thanks for the reply. What I ended up doing was timestretchnig the audio in Soundforge to the correct time. Even going through the many presets Soundforge has, you can tell the audio has been slowed down! The male voices sound like Barry White (God rest his soul) and the women sound like.... well..... men?! LOL

I'll have a stab at your method and see what happens.

Cheers ears!

Hi again,

Sorry for being a thicko, but unlike a lot of people, I prefer to know the reasons behind problems, rather than just how to fix them!!

I have just read you reply again (in detail) and am I correct in thinking the MPEG is different in length due to Tmpgenc+ converting the movie and somehow the audio in the original AVI affects the final MPEG film length? So as you say, removing the audio from the film, and using that "muted" video in Tmpgenc+ will result in a MPEG the same in length as the original AVI?

Can you let me know if this is right, and if its not too much trouble why this happens?

Many thanks!!! ;o)
