Greetings i am starting to reach the end of my teather, i have been backing up ps2 games flawlessly for about 6 months now Using TDK 8x dvd-r with the ID code TTG02.
By flawlessly i mean just that i could litteraly burn on these disks at any spead using any progrom (usualy dvd decrypter) and id never get a skip or jump. However the store i got them from has stopped selling these disks.
I thought id solved the problem when i found the exact same packaged disks in another store only slightly more expensive, so i went ahead and bought a sh*t load of them, right enough there identical in everyway. Untill i tryed to burn with them. i Noticed these disks carry the ID code TTH01. i didnt think this would be a problem as this ID code still was Listed as Grade A in the best media thread. However nomatter what speed or program i use (decrypter or alcohol 120%) its skip Jump City.
so i assumed my Ps2 just didnt like this media code so i went out and bought some TDK 16x disks and noticed these carry'd the Lead in code TTH02, my heart sank as yet again Skip Jump City no matter what speed or program was used. despite them being ranked top in the best media thread.
So by this time i was getting deperate looked around these forums for a few hours tryed doing everything on the checklist and still No joy. I used my last "origional" TDK TTG02 disk earyer today to test if they were still burning flawlessly and yup my ps2 still likes those now impossible to find disks.
I read on the forum that TDK arent always the best so i decided to go out today and Buy the best i can find. Here in scotland Yuden or maxell proved impossible to find, But i did manage to find some 8x Sony dvd-r's with the lead in code SONY08D1. but to my surprise these disks are performing worse than the TDK's.
so now here's my question HELP!. can it really be that my ps2 doesent like 4 Grade A media type's? if anyone has any insight or advice as to what may be my problem or solution i would really apreciate it
here is some information that should help.
PC spec: Athlon xp2600, gig of ram, Lite-on 16x writer, windows XP
Burning programs: Alchohol 120% and dvd decrypter
Ps2 Boot method: Swap disk 3.6 with slide tool
Ps2 version: SCPH-50003 Silver
Lead in codes: TTG02, TTH01, TTH02, SONY08D1
PS. just a note when the games skip i hear what i assume to be the lense makes a Faint Clicking noise something i never here with Official games or DVD movies or with the old TDK disks i can no longer find.

check the web and make sure you have the latest firmware for your burner. That has a lot to do with how well it handles different brands of media. Can you get your hands on any Verbatim DVD-R there?
Those are suppost to be very good.
I would check for you but you need the exact model number of your burner.

aldo99 where in scotland are u from?
oh and you should buy sony discs which have the accucore function.They are brill and are highly recommended.The reason ure discs skip is cause the disc is unstable. the accucore function keeps the disc spinning at the right bit all the time.

I have looked all over the place can only find Verbatim CDr's, i Noticed Argos have maxell dvd-r's in spindles of 25 and 50 and there only about 5 minutes walk from me. im a bit wary of buying yet more disks tho. and id rather give + disks a try to see if burning with the dvd-rom book typ helps at all but they dont have them.
But before that im going to give Updating this drives firmware a shot first all i know is its a Lite-on 16x drive that supports dual layer disks is there a program or a way i can find the model number? i threw the box away.

i am wondering if your dvd writer is dying are there any gaps or patches on the discs that look like your writer hasn't burned there properly.

well the writer is pretty new, and it worked fine with the Old typ of TDK disks just fine, ive checked the disks and they look fine. and there's nothing really that would indicate the drive is damaged or not functioning properly for instance all Video or data dvd's i write are just fine.

sounds like your ps2 just doesn't like the media.
i had the same experience when i went to ritek G05 from ritek G04.
the G04's were flawless but the g05's jumped around even the audio was terrible wether i was playing a movie or a game.
just sounds like your ps2 doesn't like the media can you try them on a friends console just to see if theres any difference.
normally pissed off

yep i may just have to accept that my ps2 doesent like the new TDk or sony disks.
my only problem is as im without a credit card or switch and cant order online im limited to what the local shops provide. so unless there's something ive missed and can get these disk working
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6767299.htm are my last hope, any comments on those disks? unfortunatly argos dont tell you the ID code of the disks so i have to buy them first to see whats inside. And there is always the possibility my ps2 wont like them even if there good and i relly dont want to waste more money on coasters. ive got 5 full spindles here bought at retail prices that are useless to me already lol Man i wish i stocked up on the Old TDK's while they where still available

well the only help I can give as far as ordering online is trying to get a visa or mastercard gift card. They are sold in most banks here in the US not sure about the UK. I don't really like ordering disks online because you can't get all the information you need, but maybe you can call the company and get the infor or maybe someone can give you a site were they ordered the discs you are looking for.

Try doing what the poster above me said and going to your local banks and seeing if they have the Visa/Mastercard gift cards so you can order online(get some Yudens).I use them for all my online purchases and they are great(I ordered over $1000 in PC parts with one and have no problems.)

The following list is in preference order. The best discs are near the top of the list. The discs at
the bottom of the list are suitable only for a landfill.
Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:
PVC = Pioneer = (-R)(-RW)
MXLRG01, MXLRG02 = Maxell = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
MCC = Mitsubishi Chemicals = (-R)<-----------------VERBATIM MY CHOICE #1
TDKG02 = TDK Corp = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
TAIYOYUDEN or YUDEN = Taiyo Yuden = (-R)<--------------FUJIFILM (made in japan) MY CHOICE #2
Possunt Quia Posse Videntur.
