it's built in wireless, so no need for wireless dongles like in previous consoles, also there is the third usb port on the rear of the machine that can be used to use another wired controller, so you could use 3 wired and 1 wireless, or you can use 4 wireless, or an combination that doesn't excede 3 wired controllers.

the console supports 4 wired or 4 wireless controllers but you need a mini 2 port usb hub for both of the usb ports on the fron of the console the port on the back is only suppose to be used for the usb xbox live camera
but a warning to all
microsoft has already placed on the back of the xbox live cards that the usb camera will be required in order to use xbox live
have fun

It all depends on what you need and want. Ask yourself:
How big is the room where my 360 is? Can I be more confortable siting far from the console?
Do I care about purchasing and charging batteries or battery packs?
Do I have many wireless devices around my 360? Am I willing to sacrifice reliability?
Check this thread to learn about reliability issues with the wireless controllers:

johnodd, isn't the usb port on the rear required to use the wireless adapter from M$? or am i mistaken, i don't have the adapter so i don't know if itis used for that. but it doesn't matter if u use the back one for a controller or not, it's just a usb device. and it is not required for live, it's just an extended option (voice is not required for live, so i don't think the cam[eatting ur bandwidth and theres] would break suit)
