A friend of mine is sharing some of his music (He is the artist) via Torrent. He can't give me a CD of it or anything because he is in South Africa for a month and it is stored on his PC, so I'm trying to download it as a torrent. Please note to anyone from the RIAA etc that I am planning on using the torrent software for entirely legal purposes.
OK, now that's out of the way here's the problem, my download speeds are awful (<20kbs) for all torrents even after 1 hour.
My modem is an Ambit E08C007 supplied by my cable company, and I have a Linksys BEFSR41 Ver.3 router with the latest firmware (1.05.00). From my router I connect to my PC using the Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller that is built into my Asus A8N-SLi Premium. I have an ntl 2Mb connection.
So far I have tried the following:
1)Set the incoming TCP listen port to 50000 in Azureus 2.4.0.2
2)Created a static IP of 192.168.1.150 for my Marvell controller (DHCP Address Range is 192.168.1.100-149)
3)Forwarded port 50000 for both TCP and UDP protocols for IP address 168.192.1.150
4)Diabled Windows Firewall after adding port 50000 for TCP and UDP to the exceptions just in case despite beng off it still has some control
5)Set Norton Personal Firewall to "Permit All" for Azureus.exe
There is no message that I am firewalled, but I am convinced that there is something wrong, otherwise I would not get the same consistently low download speeds.
Oh and one other question, since I am using a router, the IP that anyone from the RIAA etc sees will be 192.168.1.150 right?
Regards,
Gamerz

Your friend's upload speed also has an effect on the speed you will get.

I also get slow download speeds on other legal torrents though.

Probably from public trackers which have a very low amount of seeds in most cases. Try torrents from registered trackers such as - Torrentleech.org or Torrentbytes.net

Do you know any other good register sites, those 2 aren't doing any new sign-ups now. It's kind of frustrating not to be able to get to sites despite wanting to be a good uploader too. Does anyone know why they're not accepting new users.

Uploaders have to bring in the latest releases, ususally before they are out for the public. And the trackers which aren't full dont have that many seeders. Will just have to find someone who will give you an invite. I warn you now though, don't make a thread asking, they are being closed down because of the official one being closed down.

I guess I meant seeder then. Though only of legal things I might add to anyone from any organization reading this.
Yeah I read the thread(s) on people asking for invites, seems like quite a frequent thing, I can see why you get irritated by it.
Is sending a PM considered OK if someone posts somewhere that they have a spare invite?

You can get on both of them, you just have to know how. And that's not public knowledge. And there are other sites that are open and looking for new members. Check my links listing, it will give you some ideas.

Most of the popular trackers are closed for reg's excluding invites. And the ones which aren't tend to have much less seeders.

I managed to get speeds of above 50kbs now, which I suppose is pretty good for a public tracker. I changed the drivers for my motherboard though, so it could have been the nVIDIA Firewall (I forgot about that one). Also I've managed to download his album now, and it is pretty damn good.
I originally planned on joining a registered site to see if there was a problem (I would have kept at least a 1.000 ratio though). But now I think I may join one properly. Could you post the top site that require registeration so I can see if anyone I know has any invites.

Gamerz
The best ones seem to be TorrentLeech, TorrentByte, Demonoid, SuperTorrent, TorrentIt, SceneTorrent or FileList. But I don't know which of those is the best.
