Can I burn any .VOB file I happen to have?

I'm a total novice but thanks to these forums I've made some progress and I've now got backup copies of a couple of my much valued dvd's.

I've also learned that I'm going to have to give up hope of backing up some of the even more dearly loved (but old and scratched) because it just can't be done.

But on the way to learning all this and trying and failing with various progs I've collected a few directories with a few .vob files in them.

If I click on a random .vob it'll usually play quite happily in Nero Showtime.

I don't see any mention of it in any of the screens about dvd copying I've worn my eyes out reading - but can I just simply burn these .vob files to a dvd?

I know I can't do it with dvdshrink because it looks for files that I assume are part of the series and when it can't find them it gives up.

But is there something else that will do that?

Or can they only be played this way - click on them on the computer and have showtime run them?

you can burn any VOB file with Nero.. you can add as many as you like to one dvd and they will play but only on a pc as single files.. dvd players wont touch them.. however Nero 6 reloaded has the option of creating a home dvd of your own personal files so if you use this option you can add these files together and make a new dvd out of them.. how well it will play depends on your burning skills and dvd player

I haven't even started making my own DVDs yet. I guess it is time to start and then I'll run across this feature I guess. I've got nero7 here. I don't quite understand 'nero 6 reloaded' ? put perhaps it doesn't matter.

If I can do this I'll be pretty happy. A few of the backups I tried to make failed but did create .VOB files for the main feature (judging by the size of them) and that's all I want! So I'll get them anyway! It's good news. Thanks. :)
