Well i had a Sony DRU-700A (internal) and it was a great burner for about 2 years, until about a week ago when i think i just wore it out. It started to not recognize the blank media, and some retail movies, and would give bad burn jobs, i got a good burn about 1 out of every 3 times. but i did A LOT of burning with it so i am not really surprised that i wore it out.
So now i am replacing it with a BenQ DW1655 which i have heard is a great burner, although i will not know until i test it out.
Have heard good things also about some Pioneer burners and NEC burners. From what i know NEC and BenQ are the same maker.
Just like Lite-On makes most of the Sony burners and Sony just
re-badges them as their own.

Go to the site that the link I'm providing directs you to .. there are lots of DVD burner reviews ...
You may also notice that the BenQ DW1655 (and DW1640) are both 'Editor's Choices' ...

I've owned/used most of the mainstream DVD writers and BenQ is the best!

That link was really good, just wat i was looking for. Im leaning towards the BenQ now but i read somewhere that its not dat good at reading but one of the best for writing. Is that true?
Also does it matter all dat much? Im looking to get something thats good all round!
Thanks

It's excellent at reading and at error correction .. what the BenQ's biggest weakness is, is writing CDs ... I only use mine for burning DVDs .. no reading, no CDs ... just trying to keep the mileage down ...
