That's the stupid thing with xp..incompatable with the thing it's built out of!!..never mind..what you can try is running the file in win95 compatability mode..right click the file and go to properties/advanced and check the run in win 95 or 98 compatability mode box..that should do the trick...If not then get the dosbox emulator..and go insane trying to get it to work..

I think maybe it was an issue with the source of where I got this thing because I tried another one like you suggested and the game started. Would you suggest burning this file to iso on cdr? The game is panzer general 2 (old) maybe I could use Nero 6 or alc 120% to burn? I mean I can play now but not install and theres no music.
Thx for help tho!

I think first try mounting it on the virtual drive in alcohol and trying to install from there...If I remember right the game was compatable with Aztec and sb16 soundcards so you should be able to configure the sound..
By default it probably wants to use IRQ5 and 220 etc, find out what your soundcard is set to in device manager and put those numbers in..

Maybe making a real cd will help..but have a look at the install.bat file first and see if you can change where the installer looks for the disk..

You think that's old?.. I have been playing Kings Quest 3 on xp pro with sound and everything this week off 3 5in floppies, ..the big ones in the paper sleeves!! That's old..copyright 1987!

Usually when you get that message one of the files needed for NT/XP to run DOS programs are corrupt or missing. See this link for repairing them:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324767

You can also use DOSBox which is excellent for running older games, but you need to know how to use the command line or get a shell for it like D-Fend or Boxer. With the latest version, 0.65, it runs all but the most demanding DOS games at full speed.

I found xp home has more problems with dos then pro..but I don't use either if I can help it, except for messing around when I'm bored..For dos games I use an old P133 with win 95! It's just easier..

This could still be the game that has some faults, not all dos games have survived the years intact. There is a possibility of some early copy protection lurking in it that has corrupted the dos part of xp..maybe that old commandline monster..the name escapes me..<esc> for no..any other key for yes! that thing.....Doskey! thats it..

That's a very interesting bit of the MS site. I'm gonna have a better look at thier site sometime..when I get a machine with IE on it...FireFox drives me mad with script errors at ms-homepages..
