I was trying to copy Turbulence which is an old movie (1997). With AnyDVD using Recode2 and CloneDVD2, I got a CRC error. When I used DVDFab Express, it paused briefly and went on without a problem. I then used Clone2 to burn the file.

The readout from AnyDVD was:
Summary for drive D: (AnyDVD 5.9.5.6)
Drive (Hardware) Region: 1

Media is a Data DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 1
Total size: 2110112 sectors (4121 MBytes)

Video DVD (or CD) label:
Media is CSS protected!
Video Standard: NTSC
Media is locked to region(s): 1!

RCE protection not found.
DVD structure appears to be correct.
Changed firstplay: Jump directly to TitleMenu!
Structural copy protection not found.
Autorun not found on Video DVD.
Bad sector protection not found.
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1!

So, do you think DVDFab has some kind of logic to skip bad sectors?
If I inspect the DVD, I see no appreciable scratches or bad spots.

Not really a problem. Just seems odd.

DVDFab probably just works better for bad pressings. Maybe it reads the disc a tad slower or something.

@FloydV
Like JaquarGod said fab decrypter is a better ripper. When one doesn't work for me and I get the crc error - I try another or another drive.
Just from my experience (copy protection aside) in order of best to last would go like this:
1. DVD Decrypter
2. DVD Fab Decrypter
3. Shrink
4. CloneDVD/Recode

That's my conclusion too. I even reversed drives and got the same results. I liked DVDdecryter too. I wonder if the studios are willing to buy out all the software developers as they become good enough?

It wasn't a buy out issue - more like a cease and desist order from Macrovision. Where AnyDVD is located in Antigua they (at this point) don't fall under the same laws that decrypter did.
Still the best ripper imho - change a few settings in it and can run AnyDVD in the background on those problems ones.

This came out awhile ago dealing with the Decrypter situation

-
Macrovision has purchased rights to all versions of the widespread and popular freeware program, DVD Decrypter. Not only that, they now declare themselves owner of the intellectual property rights and wish to let website know that any prior arrangements are now null and void effective "Immediately".

That's the way I heard it Jigen. I suspect that if you offer anyone enough money, they'll sell.
