I am new in this forum.
On vacation I have bought some games in Asia (NTSC/UC) for my children.
I didn't know that PS2 game has 2 difference systems : PAL and NTSC.
When I backed to Europe, I realized that the games which I bought in Asia don't play on my PAL console.
I have search into this forum to find out how to convert the games to PAL. In this forum there are many members said that it is possible to convert the games even some of them didn't 100% perfect.
But there is no guide how to do the convertion, which software to be used and so on.....
So people... can anybody tell us/me how to do this convertion ?
Maybe somebody who has many experiences : Alkohol ? nrk4594 ?
Or anybody ?
In order to play NTSC games on your PAL system, you'll need to modify your PS2 (modchip, swap magic, memory card exploit etc), because:
1) Your PS2 can't play NTSC games as it is, because they are of different systems
2) Even if you convert NTSC games to PAL, you'll need to burn the games onto new DVDs so you can play them on your PS2, and a standard PS2 won't let you copy games and play them, so you'll need to modify it in order to play your copied games anyway
So, even I can convert from NTSC to PAL and burn it to new dvd, I still can't play it on my PS2 console without modify the console (modchip).
Am I right ?
Is there any other way to do it ? I mean convert it, burn it and play perfect.
Hi. To be honest I've had alot of problems trying to manually convert games to PAL via the various programs out there, then re-burn onto a new DVD.
Many of the programs produce an error when trying to patch the game file (once saved on harddisk) or they claim to have patched it to PAL, but then when i Load it up on the ps2 its still in NTSC mode.
A simple way to correct this without having to extract the DVD onto harddisk, then patch it and re-burn... is to use the program called "Swap Magic"... i dont know if you've heard of it but it basically does the same thing as a mod chip except you
1)boot up with the swap magic dvd.
2)ps2 thinks its a legit game
3)then you swap the swapmagic dvd for your copied/imported game
-choose video mode as PAL (if its an NTSC game) then press X and it loads.
I had trouble NTSC to PAL converting metal gear solid 3, but swap magic can take care of that problem.
but you have to make sure you get swap magic version 3.6 because the older versions dont support this feature.
Also you have to pop off the front panel of the cd tray so you can use the "slide tool" which is like a little plastic card.
you insert this to the cd tray and it hooks on.. then you pull it out and swap discs.... this makes the ps2 think the cd tray is still closed.
I got mine from ebay but there are many sites that sell it for around £12 - £15.
