Okay I've heard alot of noise about private torrent sites, about how good they are and the benefits of using them so I want to jump on the bandwagon too. So with that said I wanted to know can someone please list the best private torrent sites and also tell me how to get an invite.
P.S. I also saw in one of the post in this forum that you can download a 1GB file in 15 minutes can someone please verify that for me and tell me if it's true or not.

You get invites from people that are on those sites.
You can't ask for them on Afertdawn though, since the whole invite thing got out of hand.
As for those high download speeds, that is only true if your internet connection is actually that fast, and i personally don't believe that that person actually had such high download speeds.

1 GB= 1024 mb
1 Mb= 1024KB
1B=8b
So, 1GB=1048576KB, or 8388608 bytes.
Download speed is generally measured in kilobits, not kilobytes, don't ask me why.
So...15 minutes is 900 seconds.
8388608 / 900 = 9320.676
So, that person had to have taken down that file at 9320.676 Kb per second...
Or...
9.102 Megabits per second.
I don't know about you, but I find that hard to believe, more because very few people have that kind of UP speed, not because it's impossible to achieve that downstream. I.E., I think it was an overzealous exaggeration.
I have up to 5Mb/s connection theoretically, it rarely goes over 3.2Mb/s. The fastest I tend to bring down torrents from a very nice private tracker is ~230Kb/s, which still brings down large video files significantly faster than it takes to play them.

the best site is torrentleech.org, and if you have a cable connection, you might download a 1gb in 15 minutes there :)

i said that u could download a 1GB file in about 15 min. i based it on the fact i finished downloading a 4GB file in a little over a hour. my speeds where around 1000 kb/sec. the highest ive ever had so far. i dont know about your logics, but i do know that i didnt take more than 1 1/2 hours, possibly 2 (highly doubt it), to download my file.

And you based that on your experience, which might lead some less intelligent people to believe that they can get such speeds with their cheap adsl/cable/dsl connection.
And then they come here whining about how "so and so said he downloaded an entire dvd in about an hour, so why can't i do that too?"...

Yeah... posting your download speeds will lead to people screaming "why can't I do that". Everyone has a variet of DSL connections. Mine for instance is about 350kB/s downlaod and that's on a 3M/768K connection. You might have taken 15 min per GB but for me it would have been a little longer. Plus it also depends on the number of seeders/leechers on the torrent.

LOL, i just finished a 750 MB file in 25min, and i only got around 500 kb/sec. im not into math so im i cant go through the steps logically. like i said before "i finished a 4GB file in a little over an hour getting speeds around 1000 kb/sec." on a 6MB connection.

Yes, I killed 750mb in 25 minutes earlier as well. However, 750Mb is only 60% as much as a gigabyte, which is what you claimed to take down in 15 minutes earlier.
Your 6Mb connection can't even go as fast as you said...
look here:
http://lyberty.com/encyc/articles/kb_kilobytes.html
6x122.1=732Kb/s MAX speed, without factoring in overhead and line traffic.
My cable service is 3-7Mbits, 3's guaranteed, 5's more common, so yours probably fluxuates too, but it's generally agreed that 8 Megabits is the max for commercial cable, which is still only 976.8Kbytes a second.
I'm not trying to flame you, just trying to be realistic.
1000 kbytes a second is still only 98% of a megabyte per second. which comes to only 58.8 megabytes a minute (still very fast), which comes to 882 megabytes max in 15 minutes, assuming that rate was maintained. 1 Gigabyte =1024 Megabytes....
I borked up my math in my earlier post, I got my bits and bytes mixed up, but you're still talking something insanely fast, unreasonably fast for a cable modem...and an 8.2Mbit connection.
And to the person who asked if it was "possible?" oh sure, very much. Check out this article for the future of bandwidth, lol.

For all of you people rambeling about speeds and stuff....IT depends on how many SEEDERS there are and THEIR Upload Speed ......Then you connection jumps in and determines max download and upload

I just grabbed something on a site I always max out on and I downloaded 1GB in about 45 - 50 min. That's with a 3M/768K connection. You would have to have a connection a little over 3 times faster than I do to get a GB in 15 min. Connection in that range are either high end cable DSL or some European connections are even faster, 10GB and up.
If you ever need a convertor... try this site. Easier on the brain and quicker. http://www.matisse.net/bitcalc/

I just don't buy the whole story to begin with, i have 8 mbit down, 1.3mbit up cable, and the fastest i got 1 Gb in was little over 23 minutes, on a very well seeded torrent on a private site.

Theoretically 18 minutes, yes, on a 8 megabit connection, which is 33% faster than what you have.
However...
I said in my first post that I didn't believe it because nobody was going to give him that kind of upstream...
You go UP, I take your up and DOWN it to my system.
You gots no ups, I gots no downs.
Now, theoretically a torrent w/ a crap load of seeders at 20k up and very few leechers will accelerate well over 20k down, however...you can't rely on it.
