was wondering the best quality picture i can get on my 50" sony hdtv, hdmi dvd player, i got some verb. dvd+r dl and want to backup a movie with no compresion, i use dvd decrypter and dvd shrink and elby clone dvd to finish, i was wondering if there is a better way since i wont be needing to shrink the movie now if there is a better way than this, could i use just anydvd in combo with clonedvd2 and get near perfect quality of original? thanks
Yes you can use AnyDVD with CloneDVD just make sure your setting is for DVD9 in the lower box of your compilation screen. You can also use DVDDecrypter in iso read and then open the MDS file and do iso write. Both will work, burn at 2.4x and you should be fine.
just been reading alot about that CCE and other program saying better pict quality, i burned titanic on a4.7 just main and did a DVD Shrink quality was terrible on my 50", thats why i said screw it and went and got some dl blanks
I have done Titanic using Shrink and you need to do deep analysis and set your quality enhancements to Max Smooth in order to get it decent. The encode time will vary but usually about an hour. I also used RB and CCE and it is much better and I prefer it, I have a 52 inch set. The encode time is about a 90 mins to 2 hours but that also varies according to your PC specs. RB is free but CCE is not, you can however use the free HC enc with RB. The free RB has limitations but is great if you want to try it out, I have the Pro and it is really great for highly compressed movies. You can get the program here, and also guide
RB is uses an encoder program whereas Shrink is a transcoder they are different. Both CCE and HC are encoders here is and explanation.

Over the course of the past couple of years DVD ripping techniques have changed dramatically. Newer "one click" programs have made backing up a DVD a fairly simple process... but there is a significant trade-off. The quality that can be attained by even the best of these programs is poor in comparison to original techniques that used Cinemacraft Encoder, HC Encoder, QuEnc, or other top-notch encoders. The reason is simple. When using one of these encoders the picture is rebuilt from scratch and optimized for the resulting bitrate. One-touch transcoders usually drop DCT coefficients or change quantization info in order to lower the bitrate. This can result in pixelation and poor overall picture quality.
But, they sure are convenient.
That's where DVD ReBuilder (DVD-RB) comes in. This program was built to bridge the gap between the incredibly easy but limited "one-click" solutions and the incredibly complex but high-quality methods of DVD ripping and backup.
Another advantage of DVD-RB when compared to older methods is that it doesn't require access to an expensive authoring package. DVD-RB includes its own reauthoring engine that reconstructs the DVD in a way compatible with its original design.
