I'm heading to college in California and I am going to need the best laptop there is today. I can't decide between Alienware and Mac. Which would be the best one? I need to use the Laptop for everything. P2P, Modding for my gaming consoles, Video Games, homework, pictures, movies, animation (like 3dstudio max), etc. etc. I went to a Mac store and I found out about Windows running on Macs (and its not with the slow slow virtual pc. I know it's still in Beta stage). So I like how the mac looks and feels and how blazing fast they are and how they can run on windows. But PC's cant run mac OS. I can't decide. And it's really hard for me with people have such strong sides with windows or with mac's. I dont want to get the wrong one and then regret it for years. If it helps, ive never had a mac before and have always had a PC ever since, well ever.

Get A Mac!

"I need to use the Laptop for everything. P2P, Modding for my gaming consoles, Video Games, homework, pictures, movies, animation (like 3dstudio max), etc. etc."

All of these above areas I have had good experience in and haven't had any problem using a Mac for them. Also, assuming that you will either be going to a graphics, animation, gaming, digital imaging, or video editing field of study here in CA, all of these areas require everything that a Mac brings to the table. Plus, you'll have the stability of the UNIX based OS X operating system, instead of the constant system lockups, viruses, and ugliness that you'll be faced with when you get "Alienware". Also, with these areas of study Macs are usually first to the job. I have spoken and dealt with many top animation and graphic designers who use a mac and would take no less.

"I went to a Mac store and I found out about Windows running on Macs (and its not with the slow slow virtual pc. I know it's still in Beta stage)"

If you ever have a class and need to go to Window, you can count on Apple to have BootCamp up to spec quickly so you can just switch over to windows and get the job done.

In short, If I were you and I had the means, I would unquestionably, indubitably, undoubtedly, undeniably, irrefutably, incontestably, and incontrovertibly get a Mac! I don't even know how you've managed to live without one, but I'm glad you've started to see the light.

Lol. JBMac thanks for all of the information. That really helped. Eh, I can't really figure our how ive gone this long without macs either. It was just the one click mouse and the compatability issue that was stopping me but both of those are way the past. It's interesting, people even in the windows section are also telling me "Get a mac!". I really just might. Thanks JBMac.

rihgt682 - cough "windows" cough. Apple stoled the OS idea from windows and called it a MAC.
nope.. Apple actually stole the "GUI" idea from Xerox...

BeachSurf: Get a mac!! Booting between windoze and mac on my iMac 2ghz with 2 gigs of ram is pretty cool... And windoze runs at 2ghz with 2 gigs of ram!

Ah! I'm getting pros and cons and get macs and get windows from everyone. But of course I knew that would happen. Not everyone will be 100% one way. If the mac with windows on it can run ALL windows things and be completely compatable with all windows hardware (external) and etc. then yes, I would love a mac ONLY if with the windows its 100% compatable with everything. If not, Ill have to get a windows xp laptop.

correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't most universities/colleges using more mac machines than pc's?

Also, like it's been mentioned before by myself and others, you can dual boot with the new macbooks... And a new 17" is now available...

You can even get it with windoze pre-installed...
