I just started backing up my dvds and use DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. The first time I did it, it worked fine but I've been having trouble ever since. DVD Decrytper stalls randomly, sometimes at 30% sometimes at 80%. When it stalls, my dvd burner stays running but not nothing happens. It'll stay at 30% without moving. I try stopping the program, it registers that I requested a abort. " 01:33:05 Abort Request Acknowledged" but it doesn't do anything. Plus the DVD Burner won't let me take the dvd out. I usually have to turn on/off the power to the dvd burner just so I can get the partially burned dvd out.
I don't think it's a memory/buffer problem. I'm using a Toshiba Satellite laptop (2.7 ghz Celeron with 768mb RAM). My external burner is a I/O Magic 16x External USB 2.0 Dual Format /Double Layer DVD Rewritable Drive. The blank dvds are Memorex +R 4.7gb.
Once DVDFab is done ripping the files to your HDD, open the files with DVDshrink by clicking on the open files tab and browsing to where the VIDEO_TS folder created by DVDFab is located and choose it to open the files. Shrink should import the files and allow you to do with them what you want.
Thanks,
Unfortunately, it still freezes. DVDFab decrypted it fine but after using DVD Shrink to burn, it froze after being 91% complete. I the DVD burner burns cds burn cds fine but having trouble with DVDs. Could it be a memory issue?
Ok, so the stalling/freezing is happening during the burning to disk process and not while trying to rip to the HDD.
Try:
1) Update the burner's firmware as suggested by gamename, you can have DVD Decrypter check for you by going to: tools-->drive-->check for firmware updates
2) Set the write speed in DVD Decrypter to 4x, or burn at 1/2 the rated speed of the media.
3) Try using better media like a verbatim or sony brand.
I did what was suggested and checked the latest firmware for my HiVal dvd burner (MREC) and it was up to date already. It did a search and I downloaded and reinstalled it just in case. At first, it finally burned a dvd but when I tried to burn another it froze at 13% of writing. As with before, the dvd burner keeps on running even when I shut down DVD Decrytper. When I restart DVD Decrypter, the DVD drive isn't listed anymore. I basically have to turn off/on the dvd burner to get my partially written dvd out. Also, when it freezes, I am unable to open any applications like Internet Explorer.
Unfortunately, it is a brand new burner. Purchased from CompUSA. Currently in the mists of talking to tech support. They said they will send me some other brand named dvds to try. Also mentioned something about sending me a link for an ASPI Update? They also recommended checking for updates on my Chipset (IDE)? whatever that means.
The drive being new doesn't mean very much, anything can go wrong at any stage of a devices life, I bought a new burner that stopped working after only one month of use.
You can get and install ASPI drivers from here, the site will explain what they are and how to install.
For a chipset driver update, you'll need to know who your motherboards manufacturer is, once you know you can visit their site and download and install the updated drivers if available.
If you know the motherboards manufacturer follow the link and take a look @
Step 4 - Chipset Drivers
I went out and bought some Sony +Rs and tried it out. Unfortunately, it still didn't work. I gave up and decided to buy a new LiteOn 16x external burner from Circuit City (had good reviews) today. The Burner works flawlessly. I guess I get what I pay for on the Hi-Val burner. The LiteOn has no problem burning my Memorex as well as Sony +Rs. Thanks for all your help.
