yea get a new comp , get registry mechanic and spyware doctor and scan your comp it helps a lot , get ”Torrent its great for speed or it just might be your setting on bittorrent

If u want fast torrents, go to sites where u need to register like torrentbytes.net or supertorrents.org they r great sites for speed

Luke1991, how is your answer supposed to be helpfull?

@ Babington : Unless you give us more info than that, it's gonna be very hard to help you.

Info we need :
Where are you downloading from?
What torrent client are you using?
What's your internet connection speed?
Have you properly forwarded ports on your router(if you have one)/firewall?
What port are you using?

Wanna tell me off, go ahead.

As if telling him to get a new computer will solve the problem...
And also, did you even read what he asked?
Most of those programs you listed aren't even available for Mac OS...

There is a sticky on how to portforward(It opens ports to allow more connections to get past your firewall)

Umm i have to get you a link to test your internet connection..

Go into options or preferences and go through untill you see something with port(the reason i can't go into detail is because i use a different client)

Your connection speed you can find out by going to the site Tocool4u2 linked to, then just tell us the results here.
With the ports thing, yea, that was what i meant. Try changing it to a portnumber of 50000 or higher, or, if that doesn't help, change it to 1720.

I will also advise you to switch to the Azureus Client, which has gotten a lot of positive reactions from people with Mac's.

Also, try getting into private torrent sites (i.e. Demonoid, Supertorrents), that will surely help with the download/upload speeds, and try http://thepiratebay.org/

Keep in mind that torrent speeds rely on 3 factors :
Your up/down speeds, the up/down speeds of the people you are connecting to, and how much people are seeding the torrent you are downloading.

Just because your computer becomes faster, doesn't mean your connection speed goes up as well, since your ISP (internet service povider) determines how fast your connection is.

As for the closest server, just select one that is in the same country as you are, and it should be allright.

Well, unless your dad works in the IT business, or is getting a faster internet subscription from your ISP, i don't think that he can do that...

Yep, that's what we need... that means that your connection isn't that great (pretty slow, sorry to say) and that is why your torrents are loading so slow.

No, unless you get a better "subscription" from your ISP so to speak, but that is gonna cost you more money as well.
