Will an 8x DVD burn on a laptop burner at 2x

I was just recently going to buy some Verbatim 8x AZO disks to play my backup copy of a game, but to get the best quality I have read that the image file should be burned at half the speed of the disk. I didn't know until I just looked at the speed of the laptop burner (which is the Sony DW-U50A burner)and its max speed is 2x for writing DVDs, I am really disappointed but I was just wondering whether I can burn this file onto an 8x disk at the speed of 1x or 2x, or faster with DVD Decrypter and it will still work, I don't know if I have got this speed wrong and anyone can correct me as it does seem low. But does anyone know whether this will still write and work.

The speed issue is fine. The 8x media is capable of being burnt at 8x but dont worry if you burn slower. The advice I would give is to always burn slower, but I find 4x to be a speed thats quick enough but which doesn't upset my PS2, i could burn slower but that would take longer of course with no benefit.
If your burners max speed is 2x then that as fast as it will ever go without a hacked firmware update.
