I was directed here recently and have no idea what I'm doing. If you respond to any of my questions, please talk to me as though you were speaking to you elder grandfather. I am completely computer-stupid.

Using the VCR and Playstation I have for years created little music videos for my own use and to show off to friends. For example: I played a video game and recorded all the movie sections onto a VHS tape. I re-recorded certain scenes and fit it to a song.

I'd like to do that using a DVD on the computer. I'd like to make a video for my dad for Father's Day using one of his favortie movies. I am really unsure of how to do this.

I need something that will allow me to cut certain scenes (not an entire chapter) putting them here or there, and set it to music. I also need something that will prevent me from pulling out my hair by the roots, something easy than any idiot can use.

I also need something that is free! That's why dear old dad is getting a home grown project this year!

And also, I need something that I can store on a disc or that will not take up too much space on my computer. The hunk o' junk is pretty darn slow as it is. (it take 15 minuets to upload a small photo to my blog)

So that's about it: Free, super-easy, and small in space. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thats how you learn - just by asking......

There's lots of options. Here's a couple of ideas to get you going....

Windows Movie maker, is free from Microsoft and is fairly straightforward to use. You can load you movie file in and then perform some basic editing - titles, captions, transition effects and you can cut and paste peices of the to suit....

If you wabt to move on a bit, then go for Nero....you can download a thirty dar free trial from their website, to see if you like it first...

better make suer your PC is upto video editing though. Video manipulation is hard work on the processor and RAM,,,

Good luck
Pete

my pc has some dvd stuff already; was there when i bought. but it's only for copying whole movies. i have no idea if pc is ready for this work (i don't even understand what RAM is. Learned it in high school but that's all long gone!)

if i were to go ahead with this, will my dvd deteriorate? i heard some horror stories about some protection thing on certain DVDs that thrashes your movie when you attempt to make a copy.

If the content is yours then there's no protection issues.....

my suggestion is to download micsoft movie maker and have a go. You wont ruin your existing DVD source files if you make a copy as backup firt.

If your RAM isnt sufficent, you'll soon find out. Everything will run slowly, but again you wont damage anyhing...

Good luck
Pete
