For your unsupported file issue, open TMPGEnc, main page, Option>Environmental Setting>VFAPI plugin and raise the setting for Directshow Multimedia File Reader to 2 by right clicking on it and raising its priority. If that doesn't solve it, you probably don't have the proper codecs installed. Opening the file in G Spot will tell you which one you need. The Kazaa Light codec pack is a good one and contains G Spot and is available at Afterdawn. Just be sure to uninstall any other codecs first. As for your file size issue, I believe that can be adjusted on page 4 of the wizard in the sliding scale.

IN response to mistycat. I have just purchased TMPGEnc yestereay. I found your reply to braysh on April 23, 2006 @ 07;51. It stated "For your unsupported file issue, open TMPGEnc, main page, Option>Environmental Setting>VFAPI plugin and raise the setting for Directshow Multimedia File Reader to 2 by right clicking on it and raising its priority.
It seems I have the same problem as braysh. I tried the option button but there was no (environmental settings) at all visable, anywhere.
What do you think I should do next.
I am not a computer genius, and I just started to make movies. I am using adobe premiere, which creates AVI files, which are not recognized by TMPGEnc.

I have no idea why you don't see Environmental Settings, I have never heard of it not being visible and I have no knowledge of Adobe Premiere. Maybe an uninstall and reinstall in case of a corrupted download. Or a codec issue but you should still see this: [ + quote]

Thank you for your quick reply, and the link. I will try another download. I have also contacted TMPGEnc. I have gotten one reply form them, and am waiting for their reply on this issue.

The link doesn't seem to work. You were posting as I was adjusting mine.

After you have TMPGEnc up and running, start a new project, then click on the "?" and get another menu.

I am converting AVI to MPEG, why does the size increase so much ie. from 629MB to 1.2GB?
I have also converted AVI files to MPEG where I can reduce the file size to 19.5% to fit 4 files in one DVD. Now I want to convert another drama but I can only reduce to 25%. It wont let me reduce further than that.
Anyway to overcome these problems?

Avi is a container, much like a rar file, and when you encode it, you are actually uncompressing what is inside.
