Hi mcn1209. You have a trojan.vundo infection....
You don't seem to have an active firewall on your computer. Switch the Norton Internet Security firewall on, or download and install a firewall.
These are good (free) firewalls:
ZoneAlarm --> http://www.zonelabs.com Kerio--> http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm Outpost-> http://www.agnitum.com
Cleaning instructions:
Move HijackThis into its own folder C:\HJT
Download VundoFix.exe to your desktop -> http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4
* Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
* Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
* You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
* When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
* Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
* You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
* Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
* When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
* Turn your computer back on
Post a new HijackThis log and the contents of C:\vundofix.txt
I have moved from AD, I won''t be taking new HijackThis logs from here. Reason: The AD''s Unsupportive athmosphere.

Ok looking good but please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt too.
Ok, if Norton says that it is on, it is ok.
I have moved from AD, I won''t be taking new HijackThis logs from here. Reason: The AD''s Unsupportive athmosphere.

hey everyone, i have the same problem, but i don't know what exactly i should do to get a HjT logfile. i've downloaded the program but i don't know what to do now. i got the program from filepedia and it said not to do anything if you don't know exactly what you're doing, so i'm afraid to try anything. if someone could please tell me how to get the log (and what to do after that) i'd really appreciate it =)

You don't have a firewall on your computer. Download and install one firewall.
These are good (free) firewalls:
ZoneAlarm --> http://www.zonelabs.com Kerio--> http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm Outpost-> http://www.agnitum.com
Ok, you got some infections....
Cleaning instructions:
Go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> Remove Viewpoint Manager if found
You also have SpyHunter on your pc, I wouldn't use it but you decide, more info here -> http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#sh_note
So if you decide to remove it, remove it through Control Panel, Add/Remove programs.
Download VundoFix.exe to your desktop -> http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4
* Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
* Turn your computer back on
Then run HijackThis, press Do a system scan only and checkmark these entries: (if found)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2CDE1A7D-A478-4291-BF31-E1B4C16F92EB} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
Then close all other windows, (including your browser) and press Fix checked button.
Make your hidden files visible -> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial62.html
Delete this folder (if found):
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
Empty the Recycle Bin
Make your hidden files invisible again
Post a new HijackThis log and the contents of C:\vundofix.txt
I have moved from AD, I won''t be taking new HijackThis logs from here. Reason: The AD''s Unsupportive athmosphere.

Ok we'll have to use a stronger tool....
1. Download Avenger -> http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/avenger.zip and unzip it to desktop
2. Copy all text in quote box below to Notepad (starting from
Files to delete:)
Quote: Files to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sstqn.dll
Notice: This script is for this user. If you aren't that user, DON'T follow these instructions, because they might harm your system
3. Now, open The Avenger
->"Below Script file to execute" select "Input Script Manually".
->Now click magnifying glass which opens a new window "View/edit script".
-> Paste the text you earlier copied to Notepad here
-> Click Done.
-> Now click green light in order to start script.
-> Click "Yes" .
4.Avenger will do the following
-> Reboot your computer.
-> While booting, it will open a dos prompt, it's normal
-> After reboot it will create a logfile which should open . This log is in C:\avenger.txt
-> Avenger has created a backup here -> C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Copy/paste contents of avenger.txt along with a fresh HjT-log.
I have moved from AD, I won''t be taking new HijackThis logs from here. Reason: The AD''s Unsupportive athmosphere.

before i post my logs, i just wanted to question a couple things. first off, i think i have a firewall? windows security center says i do. please advise. second, i was curious as to what viewpoint is supposed to be...has it been spyware all along? i thought i got rid of it a long time ago, but every few days a thing will pop up asking me to upgrade. (well not anymore since i just got rid of it). i never did obviously but i was just wondering if that was spyware.
oh and also wondering why trend virus scan didn't pick this up.

Ok good, you're clean now =)
You should update your Java: (Vundo spreads through a vulnerability in older java versions)
1. Click Start-> Control panel and double-click Java icon (coffee cup)
2. Move to Update tab and update Java by clicking "Update Now". After that do a restart.
3. If you can't make automatic update, get new version manually from here -> http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp 4. After restart go back to your Java settings thru control panel (Start->control panel->java).
5. Select Temporary Internet Files and click Delete Files.
6. Make sure that all these three are checked:
Downloaded Applets
Downloaded Applications
Other files
7. Click ok in Delete Temporary Internet Files window (Attention: This removes all loaded applications and applets from cache)
8. Click ok to close Java window.

wow, you're quite possibly the most amazing computer person i've ever "met" in my life. it's really disappointing that i (well, my parents) pay 43+ grand in tuition each year but computer services couldn't fix it.
would you happen to know:
why my av (trend officescan) didn't pick this up, what information of mine may have been compromised, and how i may have gotten it in the first place? i haven't downloaded anything in a while and i don't think i've gone to any suspicious websites recently. (i'm aware it spreads through old java, just wondering how it could've gotten to my comp.)
oh, on an important note, there's an exe file called agentsetup.exe on my desktop that was created friday night--a few hours after the problems started. again, if you could please advise, i'd greatly appreciate it.
ooh and one more thing--any way for me to confirm with you that my java is totally updated?

Ok, you're not the only one who has got a vundo infection on this forum =) Maybe you have got it from a some website that exploited the java vulnerability...
If you havent downloaded that agentsetup.exe file I'll suggest that you delete it.
And that Java update question:
Go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> Search something named Java or Java Runtime Environment. After the name you should see the version numbers (Latest is Version 5.0 Update 6 )

I just want to say thank you so much for helping to get my computer free of these viruses. I really appreciate it I am a single mom and I cannot afford to take it in to fixed. Also do you know where these viruses come from ? Is there some websites that I should not be going to?
Again Thank You SO MUCH!!!
