Ok I bought a modded x-box from a kid, but the problem is I want to go onto x-box live and play custom games. I cant because it has all his information to get onto x-box live like- Ip address, DNS address, or maby somthing else.
Ok so when I tryed to make a new account it said im not connected. So I did a troubleshooter and said Wires Connected and then IP Address not connected (SAYS--CAN NOT CONNECT TO X-BOX LIVE CHECK THE FOLLING IF WIRES ARE CONNECTED) everything is connected, and I whet to wireless setup and says im connected and has a 24 MBPS. But it still wont let me connect. The next time I try it stops on the first 1 and says- wires are not connected. So I unplugged that x-box and put in my old x-box and everything works fine. Then when I put in the x-box that I got modded it says the same thing it always says (NOT CONNECTED CHECK WIRES). SO then I took the same IP address and DNS address as my old x-box and put it onto my modded x-box but it still did NOT work, so I came to this site to see how can i fix this?
SETUP-
-Wiresless Connection
-Linksys Wiresless G 24 GHz
-Evo X dashboard

He may well have ripped you with a banned box!!
Otherwise change all the details IP etc over to yours..Check that they have saved..
Take the box back to him and get him to prove that it connects to live..
If he can't or won't connect it then kick his a$$

Its not recommended you use a modded system on XBOX LIVE anyways, even if you could get on you would eventually get banned.
Try a mod friendly FREE Service such as XBconnect.net or XLINK KAI (through Xbox Media Center) These services have thousands and thousands of modded xbox users on there. You will not get banned for using a modded system, and you wont have to PAY for anything !!! :)

If you use a good Mod Chip, like the xecuter 3, you are 100% safe on live, just boot in "Original" mode otherwise if you have a cheap mod in there and the chip can't be disabled you are fucked...
Edit: Dont even try to go on LIVE and play "CUSTOM" games, you will be banned in a Sec.and don't try and play backups on Live either, When on live if you do ANYTHING a regular Xbox can't do you will get banned.

Ok thanks but is it hard to install that chip into x-boxes? How do you put mods onto the chip?

Well its rather easy if you use a solderless adapter. Determine what version your xbox is by going here: http://www.xbox-scene.com/versions.php
Once you know what version your xbox is you can get a chip that is solderless for that version.
There are tons of tutorials on how to install solderless and non solderless mods here: http://www.xbox-modchips.com/tutorials.html
If you are not comfortable installing a modchip many sites offer professional installation services..
and FintheA your not always 100% safe on XBOX LIVE w/ a modded system, as MS can detect larger hard drives. If you didnt install a larger drive you would be potentially safer on LIVE then someone with a larger drive. But most people put a larger drive in there modded systems..

Jimmy42,
No shit, about the larger hard drives, I have been on livewith a 40 gb hard disk and haven't(knock on wood) had any problems, maybe it's because I use F: to boot and left my "other" drive letters as stock?

That could be it, ive heard problems usually occur when people have the dashboard on the C: drive...
But you can never be too safe i suppose...

I've been using xbox live on my modded xbox since nov. of 2004 and haven't gotten banned. So no, you would not eventually get banned unless you turn the modchip on and go online.

Using HALO2 with a modded xbox MS can dectect the chips, even if they are disabled. This may not happen for all but it has happened to some, so that is why I warn people. Your not fully protected when using xbox live, with a modded xbox.

Acctually this doesn't happen to many people with mod chips. It's more about the people who softmod that go online with it enabled. That's why it happens to people with Halo 2 because they want to mod but they leave their softmod on.

But regardless it has happened to some even with their mods disabled, read the xbox-scene forums if you do not beleive me. It may not happen often but it CAN happen...
