I used dvd dycrypter, but it produced many files that i couldn't play. i was wondering if any one knows how to make them into one file such as an .avi or mpeg.

I want to do this so i can play films on my laptop without carrying all the discs.

I think you can try wondershare dvd to iPod ripper.
It can rip DVD into mp4 format.
MP4 is a good choice, cause it need less space but with high quality.
