Has anyone had a similar problem to this:
I've been backing up all my DVD collection to DVD+R and so far have had no problem. I'm using a standalone LG DA3520 that will play DVD+R and DVD-R perfectly however a friend of mine brought a backup copy of "The Ring" round to my house (he had lost the original)
:-)but when we try to play it in my standalone it just says "check disc". It works fine on his standalone and on some others we have tried, just not on mine. This is the only movie that I have had any problem with at all. Also tried it on my father's LG Standalone and got the same error.Tried backing up to DVD+R and DVD-R but still the same result. Maybe DELA can help again?
I sure hope so :-(

Have you read this page:

http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDname=LG+3520&Search=Search

The search was harder to find than the 2 second operation it should've been...there is no such LG DA3520 it bought back results of.

Thank's Herbsman,The link told me loads about my player, but still can't understand why it will play all my other backup's but not "The Ring". As I said it will play DVD-R and DVD+R but just not this particular disc.
Driving me nuts......

Maybe the media used or the process in which the backup was generated previously or a region code mismatch.

I've got my DVD player set to region 0 so it should play anything I can throw at it, however as I am in the UK it is a Pal player and I have a sneaky suspicion that the disc could be NTSC format, maybe thats where my problem lies. Any ideas how to convert an NTSC disc to Pal?
Any help would be great.
Thanks Baabaa.
Oh as for the disc itself, I'm not sure what it was created with :-(

I have a Sony DVP-NS305 (entry level player) £119:99

Plays everything...incl. PAL or NTSC

If you have no idea on what the disc is or what it was created with I dont know how you expect conclusion on this matter.

To be honest you didnt even give the correct model number of your own stand alone player

To prove the theory of ntsc, there will probably be an option in the setup (of the standalone) for pal/ntsc or auto, I am not familiar with ur player so I don't know for sure.

Have a look and try altering and see if it makes any difference.

NTSC would play in the stand alone player but in Black & White (like my friends Toshiba)

Hey Herbsman, on the front of my standalone in BIG letters it says LG DA3520 and on the LG website it also has info on the LG DA3520 so trust me it is a LG DA3520.
I would have expected help or decent advice from a senior member rather than just plain mocking ;-/
PS
Thanks Baabaa, I'll give it a try.

If that is the case with the LG model number then why not let a site like http://dvdrhelp.com/ know because they are a very helpful site and could obviously use input from disgruntled users such as yourself.

And I stand by my point of you should really know what format it is !!

Good luck with the illegal back up of the disc you have (The Ring)

Read forum riles...

hey, guys, lets just chill.

No need for anyone to get upset.

I don't think herbsman was mocking you initially (my opinion)

Right, obviously some information has been misplaced here or even mistyped.
Now lets not argue about what player or what model it is.
Herbsman has done some checking for you, however the model no. does not tie up, ur saying it is a LG DA3520 Ok.

I think dvdrhelp has been setup only as a 3520 and not a DA3520, so lets assume the 3520 on dvdrhelp IS the right one.

Most comments are very positive between the +r and the -r, so we can definately rule out the idea it cannot play +r or -r.

For clarification:
dvd backup will not work on ur pc but will on others.
u have tried to copy it to a -r and a +r and still doesn't work.(how did you do it)

it seems (as herbsman wrote) it could be the format (not the PAL or NTSC but burn format)

For my money, how did you copy it, nero can be a pain in the arse for compatibility, however I have encountered this with my LG3200e (older unit).

Any dvd burned with dvdvideo, udf/iso DID NOT WORK in my LG3200e, I had to burn with the UDF ONLY option and it worked a treat.

I think - that the original format that it was burned in is not compatible with ur player, so try the above way and see if it works.

Too many people fall out/argue over the forums and for my money there really is no need (except for personal attacks - usually get banned) sometimes we read in the wrong frame of mind and take things the wrong way, I am sure both of you never meant any insults.

Hope you can sort it, let us know of any results. :-)

I have read the forum rules and am quite aware of them, my disc is a backup copy of an original disc that I leant to a friend to backup for me (The japanese version) and I have lost or lent the original. I am no longer in contact with my friend and am unable to ask him what he used to backup the original. I am new to this scene and was just looking for a little help from someone in the know. I mean no disrespect to herbsman and thought my "newbie" status would indicate I am not well informed in these matters.
As for baabaa's "UDF Only" Option any more info would be great.
There is that option in dvdxcopy,Is that the one?
Thank's all :-)

BAABAA IS THE MAN!. Tried the UDF only option in Nero and "Hey Presto" it worked first time!!!
One small thing though, when caching the video file I get the message in the Nero Log " Cache file too small". Dosen't seem to make a difference though.
Thanks again baabaa.
Maybe member status only is not enough?

Excellent news, I knew YOU would get there in the end.

Yes when I was talking about UDF ONLY, I was refering to nero.

The staus within the forum is generally classed upon how many threads you respond to and whether it is good advice or not.(I'm not here to gain status, just to pass on knowledge THAT I HAVE LEARNED FROM THE SUPER PEOPLE HERE, without their input, I wouldn't be able to give you any advice.

Anyway good result, you have probably learnt a little bit aswell I expect.

But beware, different burning formats, will give different results (DEPENDING ON STANDALONE)
ie. the UDF option does not work on a BUSH 1000

As for herbsman, he GIVES out excellent advice and that is one of the reasons he is a senior member - just send him a pm, and let him know.
I'm sure he will appreciate it.

Happy burning, let us know if you have any more issues (pm means 'private message' just in case you didn't know)

Also to add, as I said previously nero is a butt ache for compatibility, I was using version 5.5.9.17, but I then ditched it for RECORDNOWMAX VERSION 4.5, this plays fine in my LG3200e, maybe worth considering as it is very well recommended for compatibility problems.

You can get a trial download at www.orlogix.com if you fancy giving it a go - You do have to buy the full version though if you're impressed.

Hey Baabaa, I have a real problem now:-(
I set my DVD player to region 0 with a hack so it would play all my backups but now when I try to play my Original's (Region 2) it won't play them.
I tried the region hack again to set it back to region 2 which was the default but it still won't play them. It would seem that I can't get it to reset to region 2 or any other region for that matter.
Still have a lot to learn don't I.
Any help at all would be great :-)
Thanks.

Ooooh dear.

Lots of people I have heard about have done this, alot of 2nd hand players players for sale on auctions etc - are being sold because they have changed the region and won't play their originals anymore.

One question, why did you change it, because when you rip (depend on settings/software) it makes the dvd multiregion anyway so there really is no need to change it on your player.

Anyway, I shall have to do some digging around concerning this.

Players nowadays, all have eeproms in - this is the firmware, and when you update anything it usually gets stored here.

Now I shall do some digging around concerning the firmware, but I may draw a blank, however if my theory serves me right, if there is a firmware update available for your player - this may sort out your problem...

I shall have a luck, also someone may just respond here who has encountered a similar problem.

You will probably have this info, but check out the following:

http://members.lycos.co.uk/ittroll/multiregion.htm

It comes up with some options, an interesting one is TOTALLY POWER OFF the player - unplug for a long period and retry.

Don't know if it helps but if I come up with anything else I'll let you know.
