I recently started receiving this message, "Windows was unable to save all the data for the file C:\$MFT. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection." I have had my Sony PCV RZ 22G for approx. 3 years now. I have an additional 200 gig internal hard drive as well so most of my work is saved on this (H drive). The computer is partitioned for C drive 18 gigs (remaining 3.28) and the D drive at 62 gigs(remaining 23.4). My installed programs are saved on the D drive. I have not performed any recent changes so I have no idea why this is starting now. I had the computer on, timer was set to record a tv program and I received the message. I rebooted and received some sort of Chkdsk scan for dirty cache. The computer completed the scan and then booted up, only to display the C:\$mft error later in the day. I have not been attempting to save anything, what is the problem? I did some research and found this. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;330174. I have a gig of ram, so I tried that remedy. Any sugeestions? I don't have CD's to do a fresh install of Windows XP, just recovery disks. I will attempt to free up additional space on C drive, but after skimming over the folders, I don't see how I only have that amount remaining.

Get rid of the viruses on your computer. Your second message is telling you that you watched some .swf movie when you were online. Empty your temporary internet files and the files from the temp folder right next to the temporary internet folder.

The local sttings folder is a hidden folder, so if you can't see it, you have to go to folder options in My Computer, and change the settings so that you can see the folder.

I scanned with Norton and found no viruses, I constantly got Delayed writer unable to save data on C drive. I tried to go to windows update to determine if there was a update, but now I can't update from microsoft. I don't believe that the hard drive is crashing because the default was to be partioned from sony C drive 18 gig, D drive 62 gig. I would think that if it was the hard drive, I would be getting errors for the D drive as well as the C drive. The only recent change I just remembered is that I got a thumb drive with U3 technology, and maybe the thumb drive put something in the registery to have the computer write to the thumb drive as opposed to the C drive. I can't find the U3 software on my computer or I would remove it to see if this solves the problem.

A delayed write is typical when your HDD is beginning to fail. Get a diag program for your hard drive (back up all important info first), and see what it tells you. I had a similar issue a few years back and just junked the drive and replaced it.
