Hi
My brother has just got a new router (a draytek) he has set up my bit torrent and it seems to be going slower than it used to. Today he went into the settings because a game i want to play online needed port forwarding. When i looked he had my bittorrent port forwardin from 10000-10010. and his was 56***-56*** or somewhere around (it was a completely different number to mine anyway! I definatley know that where i have 10 ports (10000-10010) he had 20!. Also on my bit torrent in the preferences he has set the port range to the above setting and disabled my UPnP forwarding. My question is by having a different number higher up like that is he getting faster downloads or more bandwidth? and should i have this UPnP disabled because it wasnt before! Help needed before i go play holy hell!

Lol.

I've never heard of a draytek router before, but...whatever.

Anyway, you only need 1 port forwarded, ever, for anything. If you're actually utilizing bitcomet's ability to connect to the tracker more than once per IP, then you deserve to be banned.

He could have 10,000 ports forwarded, and it wouldn't make a speed difference, assuming you weren't using ports that were throttled by your ISP.

The reason there have to be 2 different port ranges is because there are 2 different computers using bittorrent, and thus 2 ranges need to be forwarded.

And yes, UPnP should be off, because you're using specific port forwarding, and UPnP can interfere w/ that...as can using UPnP for the same application on 2 different computers. It would still probably work, but it doesn't NEED to once the forwarding is set up.

If your downloads are slower, it could be because he's simultaenously downloading, the torrent needs more seeds, or...something along those lines.

As long as you don't have any NAT errors in your client, you should be fine.

Hi
how would i know if they were being throttled. He also had his laptop on the same 10000-10010 ports as well. could this be doing something. When i said to him he just sneered. As the connection is shared but he has the "know how" im inclined to believe him but i know he`s a crafty get and would only be too happy to take all the download and give me only a bit.

Eh, if your speeds were very slow and your NAT was ok, it usually means you're throttled by the ISP to prevent PVP.

You can't both be accepting forwards from the router on the same port @ the same time. If he's pointing the same IP range to 2 computers...well...then...it's not going to work.

Please follow step 13 of my guide on Utorrent to get rid of ISP throttling.

Enjoy!
