The new version of Nero Vision included in the laest Nero 7 update has some issues. Nero Vision is very slow to launch....40 seconds vs. the 3 seconds it used to take on my A64 3400+ with 1GB RAM. I've heard reports on various boards of it taking as long as several minutes to launch. In addition, Process Explorer indicates that the entire time it is loading, CPU usage hovers between 90-95%.

I haven't tried burning a disc yet, but clearly something is amiss.

Thanks for that bit of info, so you'd recommend staying with 7.0.8.2 then, which IS bug free.

Yes. I'm going back until this hitch is worked out. It appears to be impacted by AV scanners to some degree. When SAV Corp. Edition and NAV 2006 have real time protection disabled, it improves load time in my case from the 40 seconds to about 7, which is still more than the 2 or 3 I'm used to.

Also, the problem seems to be far worse with Intel CPU's (based on an informal survey of 3 Intel boxes vs. my three A64/Sempron systems). I've seen reports of several minute delays with some decent Intel's. Might have something to do with how the new Vision version handles memory calls. The A64's on chip memory controller might make the impact far less than it other wise might be, given the results from some Intel folks.

wonder if there's gonna be a lot of problem with 7.2.0.3 like there is with 6.6.1.4, here's another 7.2.0.3 problem thread - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/335500

arossetti:
I can confirn the unacceptably long startup for nerovision 4 (NBE 7203b). Startup took 2:25 - for my AMD 2600 x2 2 GB RAM awith SATA2 HDD!!

I can confirm that the delay is due to the antivirus as started after disabling AV TEMPORARILY.
Startup now about 14 seconds. Still more than twice as long as Photoshop CS2.

However once installed the application works very well, does not hang as so many previous versions hve done, seems to deliver a much better quality video.

It is possible that there may be an audio issue but I have yet to confirm this.

First of all I can't get this site to work with FireFox. Regardless, I'm able to with IE, so the Microsoft empire is still a necessary evil at times. I am going to take Gwendolyn's advice and switch back to version 7.0.8.2, but in the mean time, I found a "workaround" for the problems that have been plaguing others (myself included) using the newest Vision 4 (4.5.0.15).

I noticed the problem Nero Vision 4 has (for me) occurred in editing anything except MPG files (not sure whether MPG1, MPG2, or both). If I attempt to create chapters or do any editing using .AVI files, for instance (mine are usually encoded with XviD or divx), that's when I encounter the system freezing, which did not occur in previous versions (though in a prior version I used - not sure which version unfortunately, but not 7.0.8.2) I experienced problems with the chapter selection thumbnails displaying the wrong photo, relatively minor problem comparatively speaking but annoying nonetheless).

The workaround I heard on another board works great for me, but adds steps to the process.

1. Create a DVD using Nero 4 with any format video. Do not do any creation of chapters. Do not create a menu. Simply burn a DVD as-is using the Image Burner to your hard drive.

2. Then load the image as a virtual disk, and import the video into Nero Vision, which will convert it to an MPG and store it in your default "Imported Video" folder.

3. At this time you can unload the virtual drive and delete that file. This is important because Nero Vision 4 needs at least 9 GB hard drive space if not more to encode a movie, due to creation of temp files etc.

4. Work in Vision 4 as normal, and it should work. Or I should say this workaround has been working for me just fine.

I too am having problems with nervision. I have been using this package for, literally, years. As they make new, improved, versions its reliability seems to suffer. The previous iteration of nerovision the editing function froze the machine. In the newest iteration it does not seem to like making video dvd's with any degree of consistency.

What I do is capture tv shows (mpg), then edit them with nerovision and then export them. Once I have enough of these to make a dvd I try and do just that. I am currently putting results to the recorder/hard disk. I am successful about 10% of the time. I can play the created dvd (before burning) with absolutely no problem. When burning, however, it flunks. Everytime I report a problem to Nero they tell me to remove and re-install. I have now done that two times (with different results). I have also tried to do this after removing ALL other programs from the computer (EndItAll)- no difference. I am tempted to do it again, just to see what will happen, but am holding off (there will probably be a new version next week).

I have lots of memory, disk space, and a reasonable cpu so, I believe that is not the problem. I have removed all other programs so that's not the problem. I have noticed, however, that everytime one runs nerovision, or starts a new project, that nerovision cleverly drops another artifact of itself in windows processes - this can't be real good. I have reported this to them but I guess they figure this is ok. All in all I tend to believe that nerovision is the problem and not my machine or program conflicts.

Does anybody know if roxio videowave works any better than Nero? I am kinda running out of patience and that might be a solution.

Any thoughts and/or suggestions would be accepted with joy and thankfulness.

I have studied not only the log but also the error.log They are wonderful examples of technical stuff, obscure error numbers, etc which are not very helpful without being an expert in the internals of nerovision. I suspect it would be easier to simply write a program to do the job than to debug their code.

If you do NOT know how to read a Nero log, then why try. There are people here at AD including myself who can fathom what

these errors mean otherwise we wouldnt ask for it in the first place.

If you want help, post the log otherwise I cannot assist you any further.
