A few weeks ago, while I was using my IBM Thinkpad x40 (with Windows XP and SP2), the screen seemed to go blank--only when I looked really closely with some light reflection could I see that the computer and screen were both actually still on, and I could see the almost-invisible outlines of the white items on the screen. I managed to find the cursor and shut down and restart properly. On restart, screen was fine. It happened again a few days ago; on restart, screen was fine. Today, though, restart isn't working (I've tried about 10 times, which has taken over an hour). The screen is so dark that it is impossible to work on (it takes about five minutes of squinting just to locate the cursor). This is not a screen brightness issue. Unfortunately, I can't provide any more details because I can't read the screen well enough. Also unfortunate, the warranty expired last August and I didn't renew, even though I had to send it in for repairs twice during the first year (once because the right- and left-click buttons didn't register and once to replace the hard drive).
