Just to share my evaluation of the new BackItUp v. 2.2.1.1, included in 7.2.0.3.

I read in Nero's Web page that the new version of BackItUp provided ?disaster recovery of the entire operating system?, and I decided to give it a try, to see if I could use it to create images (backups) of the C: partition. I do this regularly with Drive Image 2002 and other imaging software.

In my case, C. only contains system files, ?data? files are kept in another partition.

I selected the C: partition, enabled high compression and disabled verification. First the software spent 14 minutes ?calculating CRC of files? [?]. At this point, it had already spent more time than Drive Image uses to create a full image (10-15 minutes).

Then this message appeared: ?Cannot lock the selected partition because it is been used by another program [of course, it's been used by Windows]. In this case some of your data will not be backed up?.

What? A system backup without some files? What happened to the ?entire operating system?? I canceled the process.

A real imaging software can backup every file (every sector actually) of C: without leaving Windows, or can reboot the make the backup.

So I will continue using Drive Image 2002 (and Nero 6).

The test was done in a Dell 9150 with a Pentium D processor and 1 GB of memory using Windows XP SP2 Home.

I have the new Nero also and that's good to know...... but i don't use "backup" program from Nero when I have a removable external hard drive that I copied all drives too! my whole computer is on the external drive. Soooooo that's my back up! I redo the copy to the external maybe once a week or so to keep it up to date! Thanks for reminding me...... it's time! LOL
