stci in your com and load up a proggy called WINHIIP which is used to load ps2 game images to HDD. Click scan/restore drive under utilities, and if that dont work try format. This has fixed my drive muliple times when ive been trying stuff and corrupt everything.

I remeber there being a combination to reformat your HD in hdloader right as it starts, some thing like L1+L2+R1+R2. I hope this helps out some.......

If you truly need to reformat the drive (remember you will lose all your games), follow these steps.

1.Disconnect all other hdds from your PC.
2.Leave the PS2 drive hooked up.
3.Boot PC with a Win98 boot disk (get one from bootdisk.com)
4.Select Without CD-ROM support.
5.At the A:\> prompt, type "Fdisk" (without the quotes)
6.If asked, enable large disk support.
When the fdisk screen is up, select option 4 to view the partitions
(remeber that only your PS2 drive is hooked up, so you should only see one partition). Note the type of partition it is, ie. NON-DOS
7.Back out of the "view partitions" screen.
8.At the main screen, select "delete partitions". Option 3 I beleive.
9.After the partition is removed, add a new primary partition (option 1 I beleive).
10.When it is done, reboot the machine with the floppy still in the drive. Choose Without CD-ROM support.
11.At the A:\> prompt, type "format C: /U" (without the quotes).

This should give you a FAT partition on your hdd. Throw it back in your PS2, and see if it will format.

Hope this helps. Oh..this was done from memory, so my fdisk options may be wrong. Either way, this should do the trick. The reason you want to disconnect all you other drives is so that you dont accidentaly fdisk the wrong drive. Not a good thing (ask me how I know).

Good luck.
