Most, if not all the posts by the established board users here are very useful, yet if they have not done so already, I would like to propose my solution for re-establishing once fast torrent speeds.

Symptoms - Torrents once went at proper speeds, now at overall 4kb/s or less.
- Port forwarding does not seem to do anything.

Cause - Your ISP is now throttling any data with torrent headers. Torrent data header is read at ISP, determined as torrent P2P, throttled to or around zero.

Solution - Use a P2P client that supports header encryption.

Specific instructions for Azureus (copied from my post at http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/335359):

Download latest Azureus version.
Setup as per your speed, etc. per usual.
On the menu, "Tools" --> "Options"
On options navigation to the left, "Mode".
Set user proficiency to advanced.
On options navigation to the left, "Connection" --> "Transport Encryption."
Check "Require encrypted transport", set min encryption level to "RC4", check the following two options as well. Click save at bottom left.
On options navigation to the left, "Transfer"
Check "Use lazy bitfield...." Click save at bottom left.

This has worked for gatemaker, and may just work for many other users, hence the creation of this thread. If any other board members have any extra suggestions to add, in particular regarding other P2P clients, please post.

Cheers to the P2P community!

Atatatatatatatatatatatatatatata, atatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatata, wataaaa!!!

Well, that makes two torrent clients encryptable. Thank you for posting the UTorrent guide links. Heck, that guide makes mine look like a mere quick fix.

Anyone else have clients that support encryption?

In the Portfowarding guide, it suggests Enable UPnP port mapping should be unchecked.

hello dvdback23. you tutorial on utorrent made me curious about switching from bitlord to utorrent. iv exhausted the crap out of the search function. ive read every thing on utorrent 3 times because when your new at a software...it wont seem relavant till you know your way around the software. well anyway, thanks for your tutorial.

Im behind a properly fowarded router and im running xp with SP1. are these configurations correct? should my global upload be higher for faster downloads? should i disable or 'enable UPnP portmapping'? and does it make a differnce wether i disable or enable the 'add utorrent to windows firewall'?any help is appreciated.

Hey buddy,

make the [img] lower case and get rid of all the url tags. And no one will flame you, everyone has to learn someplace ;)

Edit out all your other posts, so it doesnt mess up the screen for everyone else :)

PS: get rid of bitlord immediately, its full of spyware and adware.

Yes those are correct as long as the 20 global max upload is 80% of your total upload sped :)

Wow, there's been some nice stuff posted lately. Definately needed the 450 global connections tip. I guess in the end, there are a few tweaks I can still make.
