I hope I am in the right forum. I am new and I am old so if I am, be patient with me.(BG)

I am trying to copy an DVD of one that I had done of my 8mm films (family films) and need to make a copies of them. I have Nero 6.6 which is supposed to do this for me..converting the files to MPEG but it won't..as a matter of fact, it doesn't even recognize the drive that I put it in...my DVD drive...but it does recognize my DVD RW drive but will not let me convert the original file. I have contacted the person who did this for me and was paid well for it but he will not respond to my emails. If he copyrighted this DVD what can I do get around it?
I would appreciate any help or direction.

Thanks!

I doubt that your disk was copyrighted! It's family films put on DVD and you want to copy this DVD to another blank DVD. It might be that your firmware is not up-to-date so it won't recognize the type of media in your drive (your copied DVD). what is your drive's name and model # and what firmware do you have? you can use Nero Infotool that is in the Nero TOOLKIT! this will give you all the information of what drive you have and what firmware it's running! then you can go to the FIRMWARE PAGE:
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php
and put your drive in the search and it will tell you what's the latest firmware you should upgrade to, if any! If your firmware is older than the newest one there I suggest to upgrade to the newer firmware. This will help your drive recognize the brand of DVD! Does this DVD work in your stand alone player? I am just trying to find out if you can make a copy of a copy directly using Nero Burning ROM instead of trying to convert the files! Just make a copy of the copy! That should do it!

Thank you for trying to help me. I have tried dragging and dropping and burning with Nero with no success. I have a NEC DVD+RW ND 1100A
and did try to upgrade the driver and downloaded it but it would not install. I have XP Pro (and it has given me problems when I have tried to install anything other than Microsoft hardware or software)P4, 2.40 GHZ, 2.39 GHZ 1 GB of Ram. I just got the Nero 6.6 and also have the Nero Quick Start...niether of them will accept this DVD. I just recently upgraded my ram, sound and graphics...could that have anythig to do with this? Do I need to upgrade my DVD and CD drives too?
