v12 PSTwo slim question

I have a weird question. I ordered a lid and swap magic's for a friend's v12 PSTwo. I received them the other day, which I installed the lid right away. Instead of the normal 2 disc swap magic I received a 1 disc Ultimate Collection. After veiwing a site about how to use this new type of boot disc I got CD backups to work fine, but DVD backups cause it to restart straight back to the screen where you can see your memory cards, ect. Original DVD games work great though. Now, I have a v7 PS2 myself with 2.0 swap magic's in which the new Ultimate Collection boot disc works just fine. Is there any special way I have to burn backups to play on the v12 PSTwo? I have quite a large collection of backups which all work on my v7 just fine. Does this sound like a bad boot disc, bad system or what, cause I'm lost. I don't believe it's a media issue I use $ony brand media and have never had any problems. Thanks for any help.
