All,
I have a panasonic TH-42PD25 which I guess is an EDTV (42in plasma) It is capable of 408i, 480p and 1080i (through HDMI).

I am planning on buying a code-free dvd player and have it narrowed down to these two models, http://www.220-electronics.com/dvd/toshibahd.htm or

Now, the problem: Originally I wanted the oppo, but oppos cust. rep said HDMI would downscan to 480 on my TV. The oppo cannot do 480p believe it or not (they sacrificed it for other things)

The pioneer is NOT an upconverting machine (though it is 480p) and I definitely WANT IT if my TV WONT'T DO 1080i.
The Toshiba, which does have HDMI upconverting is a little more $ but does do 480p at the very least and MAY work for my TV at 1080i. I guess i wouldn't know unitl I actually tested it. I really don't know what to do.

Help PLEASE. Which unit? The toshiba or pioneer. Do I spend the xtra $ on an experiment? Plus, I truly prefer pioneer to toshiba.
