I'm kinda new here... been lurking for a few months and read all the wonderful guides and think I've got alot of it understood.. well at least the basics lol.
My question is about certain rar files I get give me a strange error and I wondered if any of you might be able to help me with it...

! There is not enough space on the disk.
! Write error: only NTFS file system supports files larger than 4 GB

I don't understand how to fix this :(
I have XP home and enough HD space. I can extract most rar's (even the archives) but there are a few that give me this error.

Your harddisk is FAT32 (the format), so you'll need to convert it to NTFS, because FAT32 only supports up to 4gb (for a single file)

To convert, you open up a command window by:
pressing the window key+R

then type:
"cmd"

and a window will show up, now you type:
"convert x: /fs:ntfs"

There's not really any disadvantages in using NTFS, except if you want to use Linux, because NTFS is kind of like a "Microsoft only" format, but if you don't use Linux, you'll be fine (even if you use Linux, there are ways to access NTFS format HD anyway)

Does ftfs format slow the pc down? I formatted it from fat32 to ntfs and it don't seem to load up as fast and takes longer to open my browser.

i would not think that it would be slower, that is the most common file structure on newer PC's
Pretty much the standard now.

thanks alot guys :) I think the speed was due to kaspersky finding something in the background. And now I'm able to un-rar that file! Now I wish I hadn't deleted the other one lol

Thanks again!
