Here's the causes from Nero website:
I get a 'Power calibration error' or 'Calibration area (almost) full' error message. Why?

Power Calibration is controlled by the recorder.

Before any write operation, all recorders must do a 15 step power test to determine the optimum power for writing to the CD; this is called "Optimum Power Calibration"(OPC). During the write, it continues to do this test to get the best write throughout the whole CD; this is called "Running Optimum Power Calibration" (ROPC).
This whole process is controlled by the recorder, though initiated by programs such as Nero. There is an area on the inner part of the CD for the test and test data info to be stored. You can use this area up to 999 times.

If you receive the "Power calibration error" or "Power calibration area is (amost) full" error message, the cause will be either poor media, poor power, or a defective recorder.

Please try the following solutions:

Update the firmware of your recorder. Please check the manufacturer's website for the latest version.
Try another brand of CD-R or CD-RW media.
Try different power connectors, and for recorders, do not share power with other devices. It needs its own power connector. If the error occurs with an external recorder, the power source in the chassis could be the cause. As a test, try to take the recorder out of the external chassis and connect it internal.
Try different configurations, such as taking the CD-ROM to the primary IDE bus as slave and have only the recorder connected to the secondary IDE bus as master.
Send the recorder in for service.

You can also post your last Nero log. They can be located at -
Nero6: program files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.txt
Nero7: program files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>NeroHistory.txt
Just be sure to edit out your serial # - they usually begin w/ 1A,1C or 5C.

Is this the same with a DVD...I was trying to burn a Dvd that I shrink from DVD Shrink. It wouldn't burn via Shrink so I figure I could burn the DVD through Nero...Now in the past I've been able to do this with no problem. It was just this morning it gave me this error.

@tarrad
Yep same for a DVD (should have typed in and/or cd/dvd). Since you have Nero - Shrink uses Nero to autoburn. Reason both would have failed.
What brand of discs are you using?

Verbatim is good stuff - may or may not be the problem.
Best bet post the last Nero log and we may be able to see if something is amiss.

I've been using same Vertabim DVD-R for all my burning for past few months and suddenly this started happening. The meter will not go past 0% and then it'll give me a power calibration error and simply will not write:

You may have just had a bad disc - even with the good stuff it can happen occasionally.

@Terra
Here's some suggestions to start with:
Quote:
Nero API version: 6.0.0.0
Your Nero can definitely use an update. Update to 6.6.0.18. Here's a FTP to get it:
ftp://ftp.us.Nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe
Quote:
Recorder: <SONY DVD RW DRU-530A> Version: 2.1g
Firmware is up to date but the last support on this drive was from 12/04 so there may be newer media that won't always work for this drive. Try some 8x.
Quote:
Disc Manufacturer: MCC 03 - RG20
Good media. 16x speed. May be the problem.
Quote:
TA-Status 0x02 (0x01, SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND)
Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)
Also saying it doesn't like the media.

Looks like you also have 4 virtual drives. You may want to uninstall some.
Let us know how it goes - good, bad or otherwise!
