Hi all,

I have seen 1Gb sticks of PC2100 (and PC2700) with the following two different specs:

Spec One: 128x64 -Built with 128Mx4Bit Dram

Spec Two: 128x64 -Built with 128Mx8Bit Dram

The only difference that I can see is that the 2nd one is made with 8Bit Dram. Which one can I use or can I use both? How can I tell?

Thanks in advance

Main PC specs: AMD-XP 1900+; SOYO KT400 Dragon Lite mobo; 1.5Gb PC2100 RAM; ATI Radeon 9500 Pro; 80Gb Seagate HDD; 60Gb Maxtor HDD; Lite-On COMBO SOHC-5236K; Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-1673S

Thanks for the reply b0ba. Can I use them both together?; as in Spec One in one DDR slot and Spec Two in another slot?

You can use them together, but the speed of both will be set to the lowest value in the system.
The 2100 modules will force the 2700 module to run at 2100.

Thanks, I understand that any PC2700 sticks used together with PC2100 sticks would run at the PC2100 speed.

I was mostly worried about whether I could use 128x64 -Built with 128Mx4Bit Dram together with 128x64 -Built with 128Mx8Bit Dram and also whether or not it mattered on which one I could use in my motherboard.

Thanks

It depends on a chipset. Most can't use "spread spectrum".

As I already said - for end user they are equel.
Just forget about chip density. These are manufacturer's problems and not yours. Who cares howe many chips are solderd and how many address lines they have.... Just forget...

It depends on motherboard.

Motherboard is a Soyo KT400 Dragon Lite - uses the VIA KT400 Chipset

so it looks like I'm good to go with either :-) - Thanks b0ba and BigDK.
