Over the last month or so my backups have been a digital mess an hour or so into the movie. Is it my media or is my drive burnt out? I'm using RitekG04 and nothing is going on in the background during the burning process.

I ran scandisk in Nero on one of the movies and it came up .5% unreadable and the rest good. Ive also been having a lot of problems with getting the message "please insert blank disk" when shrink is done encoding and ready to burn. They are blank disks. Does my media suck or is it possibly my burner? any opinions are welcome

What programs are you using to make your backups?
How much compression are you using?
How fast are you burning?
What is the model and current firmware version of your burner?

I'm using decryptor, and shrink with Nero...if need be vobblanker. I also have AnyDVD.
Compression is at least 60% but i reauthor a lot of the time to get it higher.
Burning at 4x
Sony DRU 710A with latest firmware

How many burns should i be able to get out of my burner?

Burners are like anything else...one you might get 500 good burns while another you might get 5000 good burns. Keep track of your compression ratio, 70% and below I always use Advanced analysis and AEC controls. Also multitasking during a burn can cause spotty results. Sounds more like a compression issue than a burner on it's way out.

Please explain how they view-exact issue/s,and what drive you are using when it gives you that digital mess after an hour.

First thing to rule out is media quality. Ritek-g04 was some pretty decent media. You may have gotten into a bad batch, and getting uneven dye.Try some quality media like Taiyo Yuden/Verbatim/and the japanese packs of maxell/sony/and fuji.We need to eliminate this as the possible cause, and it's usually the most common reason.

Next,we need to know which drive/s give you these issues. The 700A should play it's own backups, and look near perfection using your pc.If the issues are on a stand alone player, check them out on your 700A,mainly the area where they act up.If they show up on your pc,then something major is wrong.

If you have a large spindle of them, try a few discs that are at the bottom of that spindle. You can also get a few bad discs in a row in a certain spot of a spindle.
