i have a 40gb hard drive that runs xp and my programs, i have another 200gb hard drive with all me stuff on it, both are almost outta room.
i have another 200gb sitting around and wanna use that, is my best bet to take out the 40gb and put the 200gb in and reintall windows?
i have another computer only an oldish one pentium 2 or something like that, can i hook that computer up so i have 2 and use hard drives from both computers?
i would put the other HD inside the pentium 2 and run a network if you just want to use it for space....it would be a better decision to install windows xp on that HD too because it would be easier to run a network with xp....
Why not just install the 2nd 200GB in the primary machine? How many other storage devices are you using? Keep in mind that the networked drive will transmit data at a slower rate over the network than it would if it were hooked up via ATA/SATA in the primary machine. Also, a P2 bios may not(probably will not) support a 200GB drive. No offense, but I think you may be making this harder than it neds to be.
You can also consider an External USB for the drive. Two advatages. 1) No overhead for installing an OS to support networking. 2) Portable. If its only data, you can take it with you wherever you go and have access to it.
