HI Everyone. Interesting stuff here and entertaining. This is my first post. Might be a stupid question but here goes. I have hours of adventures that I shot in Betamax and converted them to MiniDV with a Commercial MiniDV Player/Recorder. These files are AVI files and are quite large, or can be. I've finally figured how to run Shrink and the Decrypter pretty good. It works so well that I would like to put my AVI files to DVD using DVD Shrink if that is possible. Can anyone give me a heads-up on how I might go about this? This DVD arena is pretty new to me, I'm from the Betamax generation. Thanks for any help and sorry if it's a dumb question. Spark

Shrink will not do this. You can simply burn your AVI files as DATA files.

HI Di. I have no idea how to do this. I think they need to be compressed somehow like Shrink does. What do I burn them with if I could compress them? Roxio Media Creator 7, shich I have? Thanks. Spark

You're not going to be able to shrink them. You can burn them as data files. If you do not have a program to do this with, you might want to try this free program.

HI Di: Thanks for your replys. I did burn it as a data disk to a DVD. It would not play in my DVD player but it plays with Win Med Player 9 & 10 and I can copy it to a HDD from the disk. Thanks for your help and I'll check out that program you mentioned.

Spark, to play those files on a standalone DVD player that doesn't play divx files, the files must be made DVD compliant. Several programs can do this:

NeroVision, part of the Nero suite of programs, also allows for creating menus:

Also VSO's ConvertXtoDVD:

Also Intervideo's DVD Copy4 (free trial):

There are a lot of others:

TMPGXpress
AVI2DVD
etc.

Arrrr! Laddy: Thanks for your input firstly. Now if you will give me a little more. You say that there are many more, just what would I put in my Google search to find these programs. I really don't know what they are called or what to call them if I want to find them and study each one in my search. File converter or such? Thanks for your time. Spark

I would just use the search term, "AVI to DVD" or "divx to DVD"

There are also threads here on the forum that mention various programs. There are freebies out there but aren't as easy to use as some of the pay to play programs. I think it depends on how much you're going to be using AVIs and whether you want menus, etc. Many people just use NeroVision since they already have the Nero suite of programs anyway and make a menu of the titles on the disk. Some like the TMPG programs.

I just typed AVI to DVD in the forum search box and got a sizeable list of threads discussing this. There will be references to programs in those threads.

Your post was more related to encoding than DVD Shrink so it was moved to the mpeg encoding forum by one of the moderators.
